The fact that you can't rock crawl, or go to an extreme incline in the G-Wagon and you can with the hummer makes all the difference.
You are right that I don't have a clue with other G-wagons... so from now on I will refer to it as the LUV-W.
Without getting into specifics of how we break contact or manoeuvre when in contact with the enemy I can tell you first hand, that the Hummer has greater mobility and more firepower then the LUV-W and therefor I consider it a better vehicle for combat.
When you say you could never find a reason to move into the rear of the vehicle... Well I can think of about a hundred reasons of why you would want to be able to move around properly inside the vehicle and be able to work on your comms gear.
There is a reason that the LUV-W is stuck in KAF and Humvees roll around in the Boondocks of A-Stan.
