I want a vehicle that can do rock crawling and baja type driving, I have done both with the Hummer. I like the hummer because you can brake modulate.

A minor point but important - military hummers must use manual brake modulation as a poor man's approach to distributing power to all wheels when some wheels experiencing zero or very little traction (due to the Torsen Type II differentials that Humvees use in its front, center and rear differentials).

In the GWagen (I have offroaded with one - my brother has the civilian G500 that we regularly offroad/rock crawl), Mercedes has blessed it with 3 differential lockers (front, center and rear), and thus that makes the manual brake modulation technique absolutely unnecessary and way way inferior to the lockers as a method of all-wheel power distribution/traction control mechanism.

The upgraded version of the ENOK (G Wagon based Light Armoured Patrol Vehicle) known as the ENOK II.
The original ENOK had a maximum vehicle weight of 5.4 tonne.
The ENOK II has a Maximum Vehicle weight of close to 8 tonne.
Therefore should be able to have protection similar to an Eagle IV or LMV.
Also clearly has a much higher ground clearance.

If you look at examples of ambush contact drills with both the Humvee and the G-wagon and see how they differ, it shows the mobility of the Humvee.

The fact that you can't rock crawl, or go to an extreme incline in the G-Wagon and you can with the hummer makes all the difference.

You are right that I don't have a clue with other G-wagons... so from now on I will refer to it as the LUV-W.

Without getting into specifics of how we break contact or manoeuvre when in contact with the enemy I can tell you first hand, that the Hummer has greater mobility and more firepower then the LUV-W and therefor I consider it a better vehicle for combat.

When you say you could never find a reason to move into the rear of the vehicle... Well I can think of about a hundred reasons of why you would want to be able to move around properly inside the vehicle and be able to work on your comms gear.

There is a reason that the LUV-W is stuck in KAF and Humvees roll around in the Boondocks of A-Stan.

I realise this is thread necrophilia but:

Have the USMC bought civvi Gs and converted them to military use, because the military G-wagons i've been in have been open all the way trough?

Mercedes-Benz G-Class EDITION30 Commemorates 30th Anniversary

To commemorate the 30th anniversary, Mercedes will be issuing two special editions of the G-Class.
The first is the EDITION30. PUR, based on the G 280 CDI of the G 461 series. Here the G-Class declares its purpose as a true rough terrain vehicle. It comes with 265/75 R 16 tires on aluminum wheels. It also has a walk-on bonnet for climbing onto the roof and protective grills for the lights.
The second is the EDITION30, based on the G 500 model of the G 463 series and is a long wheelbase variant. This is the more delicate of the two, designed for comfort and style. It comes with a platinum black paint finish, light-alloy wheels and "chablis" leather color on the inside with anthracite poplar wood trimming the cabin.
The EDITION30.PUR comes with a price tag of 59,381 euros. The EDITION30 comes in at 97,461 euros.
Both models are available from Mercedes-Benz dealers as of mid-February.

Not Military Gs, but pics nonetheless!

We had a day out yesterday, driving through the North of Guadalajara. Not too difficult because Freyer had a problem with the vacuum system of his 463 and he lacked the diff locks. It was very slippery and fun, nonetheless.
