    How to handle AK-74M

This is a short movie about how to properly handle one of the best known weapon of the world... The original title is "How to handle AK-47" but of course the weapon is AK-74M.

The guy has definitely spent some time handling the rifle. Although carrying/patrolling without a round chambered is a good way to end up dead. Removing your firing hand from the rifle isn't a bright idea either.

Here is a much more expedient and effective method of both reloading and charging the rifle.

On the second vid.. why wont he drop his mag empty when he takes his hand of the guard and starts to take another mag? That is kind of gucci style to do it and it looks very d3lt4.. If that is the way you have trained to do it. Better to stay with it. Old habbits die hard..

It is slightly slower that way. On top of that if you are doing a tactical reload this way minimises the time without magazine on your gun. And training to ways to do one thing is stupid.

Pretty impressive. I never really learned to do any tactical reloads with AK mags, it takes a lot of practice.

carrying/patrolling without a round chambered is a good way to end up dead.
In some operations, it is forbidden to keep a round chambered in normal conditions. Depens on the alert level. You still have to be able to use it quickly.

The point of the first video is how to go from a fully safe carry condition with an empty chamber and selector in the safety postion to a condition where the rifle is charged and ready to fire in a very short time. This is real world stuff, and the guy seems to know what he is doing.
The point of the second video seems to be how to reload your AK if you are attacked in your bedroom by rogue stuffed animals or something. It is not applicable in the real world when the SHTF and your adrenaline is pumping and things are exploding and people are screaming and bleeding. Its Hollywood fast draw crap and is only good for impressing the camera.

That was fast! That looked very unnatural for a right dominant person to charge the weapon that way. For contractors issued AK's, are they train to reload that way?

The magazine on the AK cannot free-fall. It's released by a paddle latch and needs to be disengaged. Hence all these fancy techniques to reload it faster.

On the first vid, towards the end, it shows a very interesting way to carry the rifle on patrol, like holding a baby, and using your left hand to release the safety. IMO, good for situation where contact in not iminent

No **** sherlock. Not much different than my service rifle RK62. I know how it works. But when you release your grip from the hand guard (im a short guy 176cm so I preffer to keep my hand on clip) and start to reach you mag pouch. On the way you can touch the lever with your thumb enough that mag will drop. You dont need to take the mag and lower it down somewhere. Just release the lever, drop the mag and take new from the pouch, hit it back to mag well while your index finger is pointing up to the side of the receiver (to get it in the well nice and easy on the first try and dont need to look where you put it) Then there is million and a one ways to pull the charging handle to get the round into the chamber.

I'm not too impressed, sling on a rifle is better for such situations.

This way means only that you will have fatigue on your arms, and that you can't use either one of your arms to anything without changing the carry position. Add on top of that the fact that if you have thick clothes or equipment on you the motions will need to be slightly different everytime you change your gear.

You are correct on what you say, but, what I comment doesn't preclude the use of a sling, and, you have to cinsider the position of the selector lever on AKs, which doesn't leave you many options on keeping your rifle safe and bringing it into ready position quickly
