DU dust created when either the destroyed tank or the ammunition used to destroy it had DU in it. This dust is toxic. Best way to check for the presence of this dust is to check for radiation, because it is still radioactive.

And it is harmful to humans as a radiation source too, but on the other hand so is the sun.

Still, there were no reports of harm to soldiers serving on M1 tanks in Iraq that were hit also in armor parts where DU alloy plates are.

We also should consider that in treatment process when plates and penetrators are manufactured, there are included solutions to prevent this as much as possible.

Iraqi civilians on the other hand have been harmed by it, and large tracts of farmland and ground water sources in iraq are now unusable due to DU dust entering the soil and, more importantly, water table.

this has resulted in Iraq becoming an importer of tomatoes and other vegetables... after the sudden rise in cancers during the mid-90s.

-according the iraqi environment ministry Environmental Impact Assessment. - the number of people who got ill due to this, is not known really... and the US isn't happy about such surveys being conducted by their iraqi "subordinates" so its gone a bit quiet since 2009... the "hadjis" haven't learned the art of class-action-lawsuits yet. but I am now being contacted increasingly by US law firms asking me for leads to potential suits (with a commission for me, naturally) - so we shall see what happens.

I fixed it a bit for you. Plenty of reports of the ill effects of the DU on people on general.

On the other hand, I believe this is strictly a "Photo & Video" thread, are you going to post some,

or just waffle on about lawsuits?

    Destroyed ?
Nope, rather disabled and heavily damaged, remember, perforated armor doesen't mean that vehicle is destroyed.

Interesting, my friend got a theory that such damage was made by several big ATGM's that were hit the same place.
