I think that the overhaul price included all 5 migs as well as both hinds and the upgrade of 3 mi-8 to mi-17 status
I think the whole thing sucks...in the end of this, 30-40Mil. will be spent, but nothing really aquired. 3 mi8s, 2 hinds, 5 Fulcrums OVERHAULED...come on, thats ridicoulus. Some states buy Migs and get a whole bunch of them in 2,or 3 years, but we take 5 years to freakin overhaul 5 silly migs which are worthless in battle anyways. Should have upgraded 30 M.84s to M-84AB1 standard instead, or aquired some of the new era (i think its kaktus) and made them a T-90SA, or some buks, or some new Attack Choppers, or some AFVs...plenty of things which could have been done with this money, and they did exactly: nothing. Worthless spended money.
Well we could have bought a single F-15 with that price tag, might be more capable I suppose.
But I agree, first off the Mil-8/17 was a complete waste of money the damn things are ages old and might as well just buy new helicopters, same goes for the Mil-24, don't get me wrong its a superb attack/transport helo but just 2 of them? not worth it...
I think the $30/40 mil would have been better spent on a new air defense system, I'm just dreaming for the S-400 in our hands one day. Then procure some new fighters, once better financing is available for the Air Force.
