    Canadian helicopters

Im looking for pictures of Canadian helicopters from any era that show offensive weaponry. Very rarely would the Canadian Armed Forces put offensive weapons on its helicopters, I would love to see pics of them, so far all I can muster is this pic... a CH-136 Kiowa (OH-58A/C) of the 10 Tactical Air Group with what I believe is a Mini-Tat GAU-2B/A machine gun

And yes The Heli it self is a griffin, but it has a machine gun placement for defensive purposes.

The Kiowa is a small, single-engine, single-rotor (two-bladed) helicopter acquired to fill the roles of observation, reconnaissance, command and liaison, target acquisition, and adjustment of fire. This particular 403 Squadron Aircraft has been fitted with the Mini-Tat GAU-2B/A 7.62mm Aircraft machine gun which it is firing at the ranges in CFB Gagetown.

Our "Hueys" are called Griffins. ie what Boreal posted is a Griffin; the first pic in this thread is the Kiowa.

wow, now thats a great pic! i never would have dreamed to see one of our Griffs with a loadout like that, but thats more along the lines of what we should do with a handful of our CH-146s (Bell 412EP)... for some odd reason, the CAF seems to believe the griffs can't handle the afghanistan climate, yet the USMCs lesser-powered 2 bladed UH-1N twin hueys were flying operations until mid 2006. all we need to do for our griffs is tweak the engines a tad bit, nose mount the E/O IR pod instead of the sidemount they currently use, strap a mini gun and some unguided CRV rockets on there, and slap some armour floor panelling and kevlar seats and not only will we have a combat escort to compliment our new CH-47s that will end up in Afghanistan, but we can offer our ground troops a combat support role as well, instead of relying on other nations helo's for support! it could look like this...

Last week, this showed up on Merx.com:

The Government of Canada is now providing funding so that potential suppliers can access electronic documentation relating to federal opportunities on the Government Electronic Tendering Service (GETS) free of charge. GETS supports the federal government’s sustainable development practices as it encourages moving procurement from a paper-based to an expanded electronic service.

Nature of Requirements: Advance Contract Award Notice - (ACAN)

    Definition:
An Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) allows departments and agencies to post a notice, for no less than fifteen (15) calendar days, indicating to the supplier community that it intends to award good, service or construction contract to a pre-identified contractor. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date, a statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, the competitive requirements of the government's contracting policy have been met. Following notification to supplier not successful in demonstrating that their statement of capabilities meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, the contract may then be awarded using the Treasury Board's electronic bidding authorities.
If other potential suppliers submit statements of capabilities during the fifteen calendar day posting period, and meet the requirements set out in the ACAN, the department or agency must proceed to a full tendering process on either the government's electronic tendering service or through traditional means, in order to award the contract.

    Title
    DMG134S Minigun and Parts Kits.

    Requirement
1 Wing HQ is requesting the immediate purchase of three M134D Gatling gun systems, with follow-on options, from Dillon Aero Inc.

The M134D is an improved variant of the General Electric GAU-2B/M134, incorporating a number of design features that improve system reliability in combat conditions. Dillon Aero Inc. is the only known manufacturer of new M134 systems that incorporates these design characteristics. Further, Dillon Aero Inc. has demonstrated the capacity to support all levels of integration of the M134D to aircraft platforms with several NATO alliance members.

This initial procurement will serve to operationally validate the tactics and procedures required to support combat elements in close contact with aviation elements. This capability has been growing incrementally in response to lessons learned in OP ATHENA.

Gatling guns procured as a result of this request will be delivered to the Canadian Forces Land Aviation Test and Evaluation Flight (LATEF) at CFB Gagetown, NB. Initial trials will be conducted to validate operational suitability and effectiveness before any final weapon system is selected for fleet implementation.

Contract will include the option to purchase Three (3) additional units prior to March 31, 2009.
