Are they planning to acquire total of 1,136 K9 SPH? or 1,136 extra??
Perhaps 1,136 of next generation SPH??????

It would be called K-IFF.

Anything that the Koreans build, whether an original thing or by license, they add the "K" at the beggining.

ROK decided to acquire 1,136 K9 Thunder SPH until 2018 (originally 532 by 2010) and 640,000 missiles for MLRS.

The question is, does ROKA really need that much to deal with North Korea?

I doubt that. First, 532 K9 SPH are supposed to be produced until 2010. We have been making K9 since 1999, which means 532 units for 11 years of produce. 1,136 - 532 = 604 units in 2010~2018 makes a lot of sense than developing and producing 1,136 new generation SPH within the time given. Moreover, we have not yet started new SPH project.

total next gen sph budget is about 7.8 bil usd till 2020.

K9 sph is about 3 mil usd a piece, year 2008 price.

So, based on the next gen sph budget, it could not be a k9 sph.

신형 자주포 here means K9. ADD did not draw blue paper for next SPH, which will take few years even if they start right now.
And it is only 39조원 for total. 39 x 1.278 = 5 Billion USD.
10 x 1.278 = 1.3 Billion USD for K9. 1.3 Billion USD / 600 K9 = 2.15 Million USD / K9.
The price makes sense since they doubled mass-production.

I heard ADD have been studying for New SPH since they developed K9 SPH.

I heard too but I doubt they finished drawing a blue paper for a complete prototype.
K9 took 9 years of development.

the time for developing new SPH could be much shorten because we have experiences with K9 SPH development. and many technologies of XK2 MBT could be used for the new SPH project.

Yes but another article says ROKA plans to replace 전방의 K55 with K9 by 2018.

There is simply no way a next-gen SPH is going to be ready AND be mass produced by 2020. Have you looked at some of the prelim. requirements for the new SPH? It demands that it be lighter, faster, hit further and faster than K9. ADD are still no magic workers. That's going to be lot on their plate for few years.

What are the exact specification of the new SPH?
In my opinion the K9 is still an awesome machine but it needs to improve it`s range and carry more shells.
