Common mistake a lot have made recently, Invincible was not the Falklands flagship, that honour went to HMS Hermes (now INS Viraat). Invincible was primarily tasked with air defence though by no means exclusively. Invincible's air group during the campaign was usually 10 Sea Harrier FRS1s, 9 Sea King HAS2s and a Lynx HAS2. Hermes being larger carried initially 12 Sea Harriers, 9 Sea King HAS2s and a pair of Lynx as well as about 12 Sea King HC4s. After the landings at San Carlos the Junglies moved to the Amphibious ships and ashore and were replaced on board Hermes by a sqn of 10 RAF Harrier GR3s.
