    Found this on English Russia...........

Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov ("Fleet Admiral of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov") is an aircraft cruiser serving as the flagship of the Russian Navy. She was originally commissioned in the Soviet Navy, and was intended to be the lead ship of her class, but the only other ship of her class, Varyag, was never completed. The ship has ill fame and the phrase "If you misbehave, you’ll be sent to the Kuznetsov" is a norm. Read below to find out why.

It took exactly 49 years for the US Navy's most distinguished aircraft carrier to return to the warm and blue waters of Faliro Bay - off coastal southern Athens - on its 22nd and last deployment before a scheduled decommissioning

    Hi Guys,

I'm a first-time poster but long-time lurker. Thanks to all the regulars (Hump, Santana, bd popeye etc) for all your contributions over the last few years, many of which are now also on my hard-drive!

I've been collecting material for some time with a view to building Nimitz and Enterprise in 1/350 scale. There are of course plenty of other forums on the net to ask questions about models, but in this instance perhaps some members here could provide more useful answers.

I'm planning on building Nimitz circa 1980 and Enterprise sometime around the early 1970s. What I want to ask you guys is; are you aware of any interesting or unusual arrangements on either ship around those periods regarding parked aircraft? Eagle Claw initially came to mind for Nimitz however Sea Stallions aren't produced in the scale I need, so that option is out. Any suggestions will be graciously accepted!

That aside I'll contribute a few pics to the thread at some stage in the near future. I hope you're all having a great Easter!

    Cheers

You have to remember that the aircraft were different. And on the Big E the island was different. The Big E did not have Tomcats until their 1975 deployment.

    Thanks popeye.

The original Island on Enterprise will give me headaches, I'll have to scratch-build it or hope one is commercially produced before I get around to it...needless to say, your link and the photos posted in this thread will be invaluable when the time comes to tackle that nightmare.

The rationale behind the early 1970s choice is the variation on aircraft types operated and the colorful markings worn during that period and the fact that I want to present the original configuration of the ship.

No Tomcats on Enterprise is fine, the Nimitz model will have a large showing of VF-84 & VF-41 'Cats to make up for this

If anybody has anything to add, no matter how insignificant it may be, feel free to PM me...

    Happy Easter
