Regarding the CV mast.. did you know that all Forrestal class CVs mast were hinged as to allow for passage under bridges?particularly in New York where the Saratoga and Independence were built.

Ranger passing under a bridge..date and place unknown.

Independence (CVA-62) going under the Manhattan Bridge, New York, 1959. Note the tilted mast.
Both the Kitty Hawk and Constellation were built in Brooklyn, New York. Both ships were built with retractable mast.

Builders trials, 21–24 February 1961. Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) heads out to sea for trials (NS0263bg), at sea on trials (NS0263bga), and returning from sea trials (NS0263bgb).

    CVA-63 Kitty Hawk

USS Constellation (CVA-64) about to pass under the Brooklyn Bridge, 12 July 1962, as she leaves Brooklyn, New York, bound for her new homeport, San Diego, California. Note Connie's tilted mast, and the city of New York in the background.
