Regarding the CV mast.. did you know that all Forrestal class CVs mast were hinged as to allow for passage under bridges?particularly in New York where the Saratoga and Independence were built.

Both the Kitty Hawk and Constellation were built in Brooklyn, New York. Both ships were built with retractable mast.Independence (CVA-62) going under the Manhattan Bridge, New York, 1959. Note the tilted mast.

Only 90 were built, of those 37 crashed. Yikes!
