The future USS Somerset (LPD 25) is named after the county in PA where Shanksville is located. LPD 21 will be named New York.I'm surprised the name 'USS Shanksville' was not considered
Why are there CVNs named after Carl Vinson & John C Stennis? They were very powerful members of the House defense committe for many a year. In my opinion no ship shoould be named after either man. Read entire their bios..

I have a question for you gents that live outside of the US. It is my experience that there is a lot of envy over the fact that the USN has 11 active CVNs..not to mention 10 active LHA/LHDs. Do you gents outside of the US find this to be true? I found that in certain forums many members try to poke fun at the US Navys strength by making rude comments, posting unsubstaniated facts etc... True or not?
Boy can you open a can of worms when you want to..... Of course we are jealous of the U.S. and her CVN's. I still beleive that a Navy without a Carrier is only half a Navy, especially like Australia where we are miles from any where, I think we need to have a forward strike force. We couldn't have a CVN like the U.S. as we couldn't crew it, but something a bit smaller would be nice. But that's no reason to be malicous or just plain nasty towards America. You guys have some of the finest Naval ships in the world if not the best so I wouldn't worry to much mate, history has proven that when the "**** hits the fan" in this world the first one to be asked for help is the U.S.A.
