Hmmm. According to the documentation here: http://129.33.22.12/release/KDLV26-32-40XBR1.pdf Page 58, any non-camera USB devices aren't supported.

That being said, f**k the manual I haven't found much on this, but it would appear that the FAT32 format is what the software in the TV can read. I found one place online that suggested it should be able to do read-only with NTFS, but it wasn't for the model of TV you have. Alot of places recommend connecting the external drive, and powering it up, then turn the TV on and see if you can view the contents of the drive (but I don't that "fix" is for this situation).

According to this, you should be able to download a Windows 98/ME boot disk (you can do that here), and boot off of that, and then use fdisk to create a partition the size of the entire drive, and format it with FAT32.

Would the external with FAT32 be fully functional on wind xp? Or would it be ****e to crashing/freezing up, resulting in the loss of data? I am using it both on my Linux and windows machines. So in anycase I can reformat it without limitations through Linux, I think.

Yesterday you mentioned the ext.3 filesystem, so I formated my usb drive in that filesystem and the TV did not recognize it, so that option is out. I will try to format the external in FAT32 and see what happens, its the question of said stability that worries me.

Thanks a lot for the help, much appriciated. I will report with the results.

Alright so I created a partition of 8GB in FAT32 on the external just to see whether it would work. Well it did but the TV saw only 4GB of space instead of 8GB. Any ideas why? How does the whole trade off space work in FAT32?

Did you use fdisk, and was the hdd empty? I, let me remember, delete all partitions, set up new ones and then the primary. I then format the whole thing.

    I think, anyone?

I had one partition of about 500gb in ex.3 filesystem. I deleted that, and created a new FAT32 partition of 8GB, just to see whether the TV would see the external. Than I formatted the partition in that format and finished everything off. I hooked it up to Windows XP and put on a new folder with a couple of images. Win Xp read that the removable hard drive had 8gb, but when I connected it to the TV it only read that there was 4gb(3.4gb to be exact). Now I am just wondering whether the TV software has a limit of up to 4gb or it's just confused, and I can still put on a lot more photos and be able to see them through the TV software despite it reading only 4gb on a external HDD.

I formatted the external through diskdrake (linux type of fdisk, I think)

Don't worry about it. It's all good. I am sure that with my computer fu will require your help sometime in the future.

I am just wondering whether the TV is just confused. I will put more photos on the 8gb partition and then try to see them all through the TV. It will still probably say that there is only 4gb device connected, but perhaps I will still be able to see all of my photos, I just gotta put 8 gb of them to see whether the TV is just getting confused read out of the space on the HDD.

4gb sizes seems a tad on the small size, perhaps the tv only recognises typically dvd formats i.e. around 4gb.

That's what I was thinking, I will just fill up the 8gb partition with lots of photos, and see whether the TV can still see all of the photos, despite only saying that there is only 4gb of space.

I have another question will the Win Xp have a problem with working with a 500 gb external in FAT32? I fear the possible instability and freezing up, which might result in a potential data loss.

This is going to sound stupid, but format it in a few sections.

You mean like couple of partitions? Yeah but how will the TV see it. I doubt that it will be able to let me choose from which one I want to view the photos. It will probably just go to the first partition on the external.
