Zone alarm is a cancer, avoid it .
I just use the normal windows firewall and the one on the router. Its enough.
So what do you guys think is the way to go with firewalls?
I had PC tools firewall plus for awhile, then it started acting up after I did a re-install of the OS. Whenever I would left click on something, the hour glass icon would come up and it'd just stay that way and then I would be unable to click on anything. Problem was solved after I uninstalled it.
Tried Zone Alarm and it gave me a bit of grief. After it did some weird thing after it was auto updating, I said enough was enough and uninstalled it and this time around I got Sygate Firewall, but I'm open to opinions of what would be a good choice for a firewall.

I have a ASUS P5GD2 deluxe mother board with a P4 3ghz single core CPU in it. Anyone know if i can run a dual core CPU on the board. Its socket 775, so in theory the CPU will fit.
I use zonealarm and like it, although did try another whos name escapes me, which i didn't like.
Too old chipset->won't support C2D or even those odd pentium 4 dualcores. Asus has great cpu support page for it's mobos where you can check the compability for different processors: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/c...Language=en-us
That said, always check the manufacturer for such details. Asking in the internet from random people might just lead you to buy a processor that won't work.
Propably not
Anyway, upgrading that rig of yours with ancient P4 won't be economical unless you can find a bit faster processor for free (and it will only be a bit faster). If I were you I'd get a new rig. A decent dual core processor+mobo+4gb ram cost something like 150$. If you want to be on the safe side buy a new power supply as well. A bit older ones usually have enough Watts but they are in the wrong lines for new systems.
OK, I installed Windows 7. I backed up my settings on my XP install using the files and settings wizard. It created a file called USMT2.UNC on my removable HD. This has a slew of .DAT files and a smaller file called status.
When I try importing it using 7's settings import wizard, it's not seeing it. It's looking for a file with a .MIG extension. There's no such animal.
Now what do I do?
Windows XP's files and settings transfer wizard is a different program than the Easy Transfer program in Winders 7. The best way would be to run the Easy Transfer program in XP from the Windows 7 install CD before wiping out XP: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=815&page=2
I'll dig around some more, but it's not looking good![]()
No, I've already been told it's not going to happen. My fault for not RTFMing before installing. Oh well, too bad so sad. Didn't lose anything of real value.
Ok guys i need help i know nothing about whats good in a computer, but i know i need a new power supply it needs to be at least 550Wat and I'm trying to keep it under $125USD. I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 but like i said i don't know whats good.
thanks in advance.
Go with the Corsair PSU, they're very good.
I've recently moved to a new work site, apart from having the worlds slowest net we also operate with a proxy. I've got that sorted for the net, I can add the address and ports and it all runs (walks is probably a better description) but I can't make the same settings work with my thunderbird email.
Any thoughts?
