I seem to have fixed the problem!
He had set "text size medium 125%" in the screen resolution tab as he connects it to his TV now and then.
Set it back to 100% and it starts up smoothly now.

Glad you understood that. I woke up to check this post this morning and cringed.
Drunk posting can be painful.
Maybe try a diagnostic startup as well?
I still think it's a wireless logon issue![]()

So a few weeks ago when the google ad became infected on this site, I guess Avast didn't realize they were getting in through FF4, only Chrome. Today a Trend Micro scan found three instances of Mal_hifrm-3 on my computer in the C:/users/(my name)/appdata/local/mozilla folder. I uninstalled FF4 (I didn't like it anyway) and deleted the Mozilla folder, would the Mal_hifrm-3 still be anywhere? I'm running an avast quick scan right now, but I just want to be sure.
Squeezie, FWIW I had issues with Malware bytes and spybot grabbing some things and missing others - the only way I rectified it was by going to the Symantec online scan. It was totally worth the wait. Hijack this had no registry entries that I could discern about what I had - Vista Security 2011 malware. I've traced it to my gf - and she either gets it from google images or basenotes, a perfume web site. I understand this has been happening from people browsing google images, but I don't believe anyone in the house has actually clicked on an image link. It supposedly spreads through cross scripting, though.
Anyone else have any info on Vista security 2011? I have difficulty finding it on symantec's definitions, probably because of the generic name.
BTW stack server on my work dell is killing me. It's slowed everything down to beyond snail pace. When I try and shut down it always pops up and says it is not responding. Any ideas?
Is that the full name of the service "BTW Stack Server"?
When I try and force shut down because it is bogged, that is always the one thing that pops up and says is not responding. BTW Stack Server.

Digs, is there some Nokia software on the laptop? That's what the BTW appears to be associated with.
