Why does Skype fry my chip? My laptop gets hot as hell and the CPU goes arse over tit when I video chat on skype. I have to talk to my Dutch beotch.
I got it up and running, guys. Installing Windows 7 now.
The Rampage had it running around 4.2-4.5 GHz when I first booted but I toned it down to 3.2 GHz (factory clock) to make sure it was stable. We'll see how the CPU temps are. If everything goes well I could turn turbo boost on and get it to 3.8 GHz.

I like my b!tches trampling on me with da clogs.
No worries about the pins. I found out round pins can go into square holes so the 4+4-pin rail worked. I paid $33 (bought 3, 2 just if I need them down the round, and $22 for overnight shipping) for something I didn't even need. :/
I'll try 3Dmark tomorrow morning (Wargame is on my alt-tab ATM) but don't expect super high scores with a EVGA OCed 560. Maybe when ASUS releases their dual fan 680 I'll buy that to suit my graphics whoring needs.
And when you get the money this summer, buy the ROG board like you were thinking about. The sheer amount of support and features it has makes it worthwhile. It took me a minute to get the timings and frequencies to my liking with ASUS's UEFI when it would have taken me 15 minutes with standard BIOS.
Do you use your laptop on bed ? If you have been using the laptop for a couple of years now it might be a good idea to rip it apart and clean the lint that gets stuck in the exhaust (you would need some thermal gel when you remove the heat sink, clean the old gel which might have dried out and restore the heat sink). Service centers would charge you anything from $40 to $50 for it, so if you can do it with the help of youtube videos you might save a few bucks (ei if it is out of warranty). A quicker alternative would be to use a strong vacuum cleaner and try to suck out as much lint as possible from the exhausts without opening the laptop but the effectiveness varies.
Sorry, Token, when did you buy the video card? It would have been wise to just wait a tad bit for Nvidia's next line up as it is supposed to hit real soon!
But regardless, nice! Run some benchies for us.
So got my budget rig up and running
AMD X3 455 (will try to unlock soon) on a BIOSTAR A880G+ motherboard with 8gb (2X4) G.Skills RAM. Running Visa with dual monitors. Using the onboard video for now since i dont have the cash to get a video card.
Cost? $170 for CPU/Mobo and RAM and reusing the rest from my old system.
Bummer. Sell them discounted maybe?
Beauty! I think I'll be able to afford one by summer. I've run Asus boards for the last few builds (non ROG mind you), and I've never had a single issue. My Gigabyte z68x-ud3h-b3 isn't too shabby for an entry level mobo...but considering how much I've thrown at my current machine, it just doesn't do justice![]()
