My old laptop died out, thinking about getting a new one. Thoughts? How is HP customer support?

As good as any customer support based somewhere in the subcontinent is...

It depends. I've found them OK with server level support and distinctly average with their other support.

Thanks, any comments on the laptop I am thinking about or HP laptops in general? I have never had an HP laptop before. Not sure how they perform/last.

HP can be hit and miss, but they seem to regularly be at the top of the game. Asus, Acer and Lenovo are others to consider. In the end, anything other than one put together yourself (which doesn't extend into laptops much right now) it's just a mattter of mating components and execution by individual companies. Plus hoping some component doesn't randomly go to ****.

My advice is to read as many reviews as you can, lots of tech news outlet there. If you have something specific you are looking for, try to keep an eye out.

I've had some truely aweful experiences with Pavilions, but that might be down to the type of lifestyle they tend to live. They were notorious for the wireless on/off switch breaking within weeks of purchase.

My five year old HP laptop still works pretty good once I reloaded Windows 7 last year. But it is getting a bit creaky and makes funny beeping noises if I hold it wrong.

My experience with HP is mixed. The customer support under warranty period is excellent, but anything beyond that seemed a tad expensive. Never had to invoke anything for my personal machine though. Btw the model you are looking into is good, and it isn't ****e to choking air ducts compared to some other HP models.

Does anyone know of a decent program to link my iPhone to my PC (laptop and not Mac) to view all my SMS and copy/paste/print?

Just retired my wifes pavillion after 4 years. Still works but the screen got some dead pixels this year. Have had 2 x HPs for work, both are excellent. The first one still works, 6 years later. Had a Toshiba for a while, was a dog.

I've just installed the original Commandos game on my Dad's laptop for when I'm there. It runs fine, no graphics issues, except everything seems sped up. The sentries don't walk at normal pace for instance. I suspect this is because the games spec are far exceeded by Dad's laptop (even though it's four years old). Does anyone know how I can slow things down a bit so I can play normally?
