What's a good, preferably cheap software pack so I can watch my BluRays in my man cave? Preferably with 3D support. I also want to note that i'm running Windows 7 Pro.
Most people just use VLC Media Player, I'm not sure if it will support 3D or not, but I know for a fact that it will support Blu-Ray player.

Yeah, overheating. Shouldn't go over 100.

If the fan is moving, it could be that there is air between GPU and Cooler. Take out the card, clean it. Check if the circuit board is flat/even. If yes, check if cleaning has worked and if not, dismantle the cooler, add cooling paste and retry.
right cleaned card, and added new thermal paste. worked ok for about 90 mins on dead island. changed to BF3 and it cut out again after 10 mins. think im going to get a new card.

any recommendations? dont want to go over £100 ish

i am running a asus gtx280 at the moment.

    was looking at the following:

    sapphire hd 7770 or 7750

    PNY Geforce gt550ti

    or asus gt 640.

the specs confuse me though as they arent all written the same!!

thing i dont get though is the 280 has memory interface of 512....and the rest arent anywhere near that although the others run ddr5 or have bigger mem?

    help me decide please

The Geforce GTX 550 Ti is about in the ballpark of the Radeon HD 7770.

Followed by the HD 7750 which is followed by the GT 640.

Radeon often lack good drivers while they are technically better than the Geforces. I have used both brands over time and at the moment would go with a Geforce even though I had no problem with the Radeon on this computer.

do i need to worry too much about the mem interface?

ie the gtx280 having 512 and the rest having lower? (even though some have more memory and are ddr5?)

What exactly do you mean by mem interface? the gpu ram?

1GB should be sufficient - 2GB+ are mostly only needed when you use something like texture mods in games (or for badly optimized games like GTA IV with high view distance)

Did you test the HDMI cable? I had problems twice in recent times, where the (cheap) HDMI cable was the fault of similiar occurences.

    You could try this:

Assuming you're using Windows 7 OS

    Click Start Menu
Right Click on Computer > Select Properties
Click on Device Manager on the popup window
Expand Display Adapters > Right click on your Video Card and select Properties
Click on Driver Tab > Update Driver > Browse my Computer for Driver Software > Click " Let me pick from a list of Device Drivers on my Computer "
Select your Previous Driver and click Next for it to revert.

Anyone know of a program/utility to see what programs on your computer are utilizing the network connection? I'm trying to see if there are any connections on my line sucking up bandwidth.
