D3ath, RAM (or the lack thereof) can affect your disk's performance as your computer uses a disk cache to substitute for missing memory. As with T3ngu's disk issues before, I'd be interested to know what the disk queue length is for your system when idling and when being used. A disk queue length of more than 2 (in your case) is a bad sign.

I need to upgrade my x1950 pro so that i can run the game @ maxed out graphics.
Is the 5770 series the best "bang for the buck" at this moment? I can't afford anything above $150. But i rememner also i used to have some weird bugs with my ATI in ME1... until they realesed a couple patches.
Current rig:
Core 2 duo 6300
4 gig RAm
HIS overclocked x1950pro
Win 7 Home premium 64 bits
Next on the list to get is a core 2 quad 9550 in summer time.
edit
wtf, i just realized in "system" that despite the fact i installed 64 bits version, it still tells me only 2.94 of my Gskill ram is useable wtf! For the first time I buy a box version of windows (taking advantage of the pre order discount) and only reason i did was because my Xp 32 bits would not recognise my 4 gigs and now win 7 64 gives me the same crap???

^ enabling Memory remap in my Bios fixed the memory issue. Still needs advices on the video card![]()

Dual monitors on vista.
I have them set up but Vista keeps resetting the setings.
Think this will work? Issue may be Nvidia fighting vista. After further research I found the root cause of the dual monitor problem. There is a task in the task scheduler called TMM (Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager). I disabled this task, and all seems to work fine now.

D3ath, that disk queue length looks fine.
Just thought I’d recommend UltraMon for systems with more than one monitor. Using it with three and the smart taskbar function alone makes the program worth the meagre license fee. [Feature link]
Copied and pasted their little FAQ about Vista compatibility and they have this to say:
Link to their multiple monitor forum here for possible troubleshooting.Windows Vista compatibility
Do not install versions earlier than 2.7.1 on Windows Vista: installation of the mirroring feature will fail, and after each reboot Windows will try to install a driver used by the mirroring feature.
I think SilentPartner covered it off pretty nicely (and a lot better than my "buggeredifIknow" would have done).
So after over a year with windows 7 64 bit beta on my desktop, a few months on my laptop and final the 90 day enterprise trail on my laptop, my official Home Premium upgrade copy arrived from Acer.
Results:
I hope going back to 32bit won't noticeably affect my performance.
I can really recommend 7 for anyone stuck on Vista.
Everything works fine and even faster, apart from my webcam, but as not software fixes have fixed it at all, I believe it must be physically broken.
Question: Is some of your RAM reserved for use by the video card?
That's what I'm betting. If it's a laptop, most of their videocards use system RAM for video memory.

It is basically the exact same problem i had
It has to video cards. A cheap intel one (during battery sessions) and an ATi HD 4330 for "high performance". I'm not sure if it has RAM allocated to it, all I can remember is it say "512mb" for the ATi card when I bought it. I'll have to investigate!
I'll try this out!I was so surprised/shocked seeing only 2.9, was expecting at least 3.5
EDIT:
But ... as I'm on 32bit, should it still say 4gb usable?
EDIT 2: Just checked the BIOS, says total memory 4095. Video memory: 512. There weren't many settings to change apart from time, date, boot order and security. Very simple.
So, I'm guessing it's just 32bit that limits me? I could have sworn thaat during the few days I ran Vista 32 it said 3.5gb. Maybe I just became too used to 7 64bit.
