There is a legally downloadable XP Repair disc in ISO format on the web (found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-BD5AFEE126D8 )
Have fun repairing mate.![]()
To add to what Müller said, if you can provide IP addresses for everything including subnets and gateways would be good. Any kind of a wiring diagram would help too.
Aye, but keep your external IP for yourself, so you don't get attacked by some raging MP.net user who got kicked out of the house by the misses and needs to take out his anger on someone or something to that extent![]()
Did you give an IP address manually to your XP machine or did you just plug a cable in? Do the cables end at your internet router or do they go between each PC? (or is there wireless involved here?)
The first thing to do is on the XP machine click to start, run, type in CMD then hit enter. In the black box type the words "ipconfig /all" with no quotes.
What we're mostly interested in is the fields:
IP address:
Subnet Mask:
Gateway:
and DNS servers, if any.
They will be a bunch of numbers, like this:
Try typing in "ping X.X.X.X" without quotes, and X.X.X.X is the numbers that come up for default gateway. You will either get replies with numbers or request timed out/no route to host. Let us know the result. If default gateway is blank, that will explain a couple of things.![]()
Thanks for stoppin by
Connection setup:
A: Win 7x64 (using registered IP)
B: Win XP SP2 (the problem box)
C: Win XP SP3 (using registered IP)
Internet->DSL modem->5 port Ethernet hub->A, B, C are all plugged in with their own cable.
ipconfig /all on B says:
IP address: 64.180.92.213
Subnet Mask: 255.255.252.0
Gateway: 64.180.92.254
DNS primary: 75.154.133.100
DNS alternate75.154.133.68
I turned it (B) off for the night and when I turned it back on this morning there was no network, even though Win 7 (A) sees it in the network map. I was also able to proxy it into the Win 7 box (A) last night and get HTTP but now even that is not working. Currently, (A) is showing the network and has Shares still there but doesn't see (B). (B) shows (A)'s Shares in My Network places but cannot access them. Timeout when pinging gateway, and now timeout pinging Host (A). Network adapter says Connected at 100mbps. (B) ain't talkin anymore even though theres no firewall etc.
Services set to Auto and started on both machines:
oComputer Browser
oDHCP Client
oDNS Client
oNetwork Connections
oNetwork Location Awareness
oRemote Procedure Call (RPC)
oServer
oTCP/IP Netbios helper
oWorkstation
EDIT: they can see each other and network restored once I unplug from internet and shut off Win7 firewall. I've spent too much time mucking with the firewall and at this point I'm just gonna say screw it, as this is simply practice for when a better Xp SP3 box arrives next week. I'm sure I'll have more problems then though :P

This is could be due to the fact that your ISP provider limits amount of IPs assigned to your connection. It could also indicate a problem with a NIC on your B computer.
I personally use a simple router, not a hub, with bult-in DHCP server, which assigns IPs of my choosing to my internal computers.
Ya, i was about to say, create a workgroup for your PC's and let windows and your router take care of the rest. Without a ISP provided router/ router/modem combo, there isn't much they can do to limit the number of connections( i have a router up stairs connecting PC's to a modem in the meter closet) since the signal is unified from the router on
We are restricted to two IPs, but should it matter if we network in through one? It shares over the network, and can proxy for HTTP, FTP, SOCKS etc it just can't get internet access via network through the Host. Buying a router isn't really an option right now either.
Nope, that will make a difference. If you are only assigned 2 IP addresses, then that is the total number of machines that will be supported. I take it you are using a cable internet connection or the like?
It's DSL. Looks like I'm going to have to get a third IP on the plan or get a router at some point then...I just wanted something simple to run HTTP and maybe a few other things like xfire. Stealing the second IP for my spare box isn't an option anymore since the GF discovered she can watch her soaps online.
My screen will flash periodically, and just recently it flashed long enough as to where I could see it, and it had a bunch of vertical lines and was greenish white coloured. It's like the graphics card might be overheating, though i am not sure.
Anyone know anything related to this?
Hey Guys. I am having terrible trouble trying to get Russian language to show up inside the actual blog, Russian shows up in the categories, but not in the actual blog entry. I am hosting it on my own domain, and on my own rented hosting, I followed the instructions, I uploaded the .mo files and I updated the php file. But apparently I am doing something wrong. I have never used WP before, and I have never been any good with even the basics of PHP. Now when I tried manipulating the php file a little bit more, the Russian language disappeared even from the categories. I don't know what else to do.
