Download Firefox and install Ad Block Plus. No more ads ever again.

I have a virus that redirects me to ad sites every time I click a link on google. I've checked all my addons, the proxy settings and switched browsers but nothing works. I asked a tech guy but he recommended I re-image the laptop (I'd rather not). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    and

    should solve the problem.

PS I never had that problem, but the two solutions seem to be right.

If all the suggestions here fail, or maybe just start here... I highly suggest running a virus scan off a bootable CD running the AV or knoppix or equivalent. This approach will have the highest success against particularly nasty infections. Here are some links, sources:

BTW, I highly recommend that anyone who has one or more computers keep a knoppix rescue cd around. Worth more than their weight in gold.

I had that virus around 3 times. Wait until it installs a rootkit on your computer a couple of days later. It messes with your reg files and you can't open any .exe programs. After the 3rd time I bought Malwarebytes. The MB devs added a new ghosting feature that allows you to get around the rootkit and get rid of the damn thing. Best cash I've spent on a program in a long time.

Let me add - backup your data regularly and be prepared to reimage if you have to.

Check your FF add-ons. You may have an installed add-on that went unnoticed to you. Also, try viewing the same thread with a different browser and see if you get the same link type things.

Never mind. After looking up "powered by text enhance" it seems like you have a cookie doing that. Check your FF cookie list and look for the word "Enhance." Delete that, restart FF, and see if it pops up again.

Does anyone know of a four pin horizontal power plug that they are talking about? I've never seen anything like that. It looks like a fan controller to me but ASUS say it's for power.
