Symantec and Java is another classic of incompatibility (denied vehemently by both parties, naturally).

Vista is part of “the future”. Best get comfortable with it. I wasn’t too keen on it either but like mold, it grows on you the more you’re exposed to it…

You are not going to have too much choice from June onwards if you buy a new PC. Vista only from that point according to Microsponge, although I imagine it will take 6-12 months from that for retailers to go through their stocks of XP.

are you sure? with the big hobla with Vista and its "vista capable" issues, and the majority of the companies now offering XP and Vista as an install option (after they found out how sucky Vista was) i didnt know they had another date out on a vista shift

You mean its easier to get a adware? Yes, thats true. While i had XP i found around 20-30 "harmful" objects after Ad-Aware scan. Now with Vista i get around 100.

Yes the date was shifted. It was originally 31 Jan 2008, now its 30 June. Who's to say they won;t shift it again, I'm certainly hoping.

Microsoft won't be selling any further licenses after that date. Already, I can't (for example) buy Windows Server 2003 licenses, only Server 2008. I can downgrade my license to 2003 (with a lot of ever-appreciated paper work) for a while longer.

When MS stop selling XP licenses to HP, Dell, Lenovo etc, the end of XP sales is in sight.

I imagine support for XP will continue for quite some time to come, so if you have a legit copy, you will be sweet for at least 4-5 more years. Heck I was still running Windows 2000 on my main home 'puter until last year. But sooner or later, it will bite you in the bum. I had to go up to XP for the home machine as iTunes stopped supporting 2000 if you wanted to connect an iTouch. Office 2007 isn't supported either (no great loss there mind). Games always seem to want latest and greatest and if video card makers stop doing XP drivers in 4 years time, you won't be upgrading video cards.

yup os's are only good for 6 years for microsoft, haha. kinda funny. I remember when XP first came out and everyone hated it. Now its vistas turn. It will get easier. But you can always use 64 bit xp which will stoll be supported for a while. Just gotta havee a 64 bit system.

Another article on the likely phasing out of XP sales.

Get used to the pain of Vista folks, because it's the future whether we want it or not.
