Got a kinda history question for you Rangers,
During the cold war(post Vietnam), was the Regiment given special missions/plans in the case of a Soviet breakout in Europe(or anywhere else)? Or was the regiment regarded as a line regiment.? Of course, the 70's/80's were different times for the Army, so perhaps their mission had changed during that time.

Aren't those Ranger School pics rather than Regiment?
I was a Marine, not a Ranger...
The 1st and 2nd Battalions were activates in the mid 70s, and the 3rd in the mid 80s, but the Regiment as it exists today didn't come into being until 1986. Parts of the 1st BN participated in Operation Eagle Claw, the 1st and 2nd BNs participated in Urgent Fury, and all three battalions participated in Just Cause. I don't know what role was designated for them in a NATO role.
