Might be a repost, but I honestly don't remember seing it here before.

So are females in the IDF exempt from wearing OTVs or IBAs? In all these "exercises" they never seem to be wearing anything except their ODs...

Not all countries train as they fight. In the Netherlands where I work in the armed forces for example, we seldom train with our body armour on. Only when a unit is selected to serve abroad they'll start using the body armour more and more to become familiar with it, since you'll be using it daily when serving abroad.

Pretty much the same in IDF, we simply don't have enough body armor to make it part of the standard kit. Not to mention that even combat roles in which women serve in IDF seldom require body armor.

Maybe it's because the Dutch haven't introduced new BA when they went to war in Afghan. As even the British TA squaddies get issued BA on during their weekend training. Not the osprey mind you, just the old school CBA.

Well actually we did introduce a new vest in a'stan. The old one didn't have the molle webbing in it and the 'new' one does. We also have training vests and plates that don't offer any protection, but just simulate the weight. But still we don't practice with them all the time.
