Oh God, where do you start?

DLB was head of 22 SAS???!!!!
    Op Mikado was DLB's idea...
Land Rovers - on a flight at the limit of the a/c's range???!!!
The Sea King was spotted by radar, saw flares and then landed the patrol in Chile????????????!!!
It was then ditched in a lake???
24 fully armed troopers with bergans, cold weather gear, ammo and boats - all fitted into one 'O' Boat????????????????????????????????????? Where the hell would they go? On safety lines attached to the fin, breathing through very long straws???

And that lot's just from a skim of www.eliteukforces.info

Yeah, you're right. Pretty bogus information there. Should've read my own link properly. I just wanted to hint in the right direction (OP Mikado)...

Whoever the kid who runs that site is, he certainly appropriates bits and pieces from here so guessing he's a member (in both senses of the term)- I've seen parts of my own posts reproduced over there almost word for word, particularly on kit. The website's full of cracking gaffs though as highlighted above- amateur hour on the research front.

Default sea king mk4 mission in argentina/chile

I have information on operation mikado for you.

You need to read the book "special forces pilot", by richard hutchings DSC, he captained the crew of the sea king and released his book on october 16th 2008. the truth about the mission is explained in detail. the book is the authors memoirs of the entire conflict, including his time on hermes, the pebble beach raid, operation mikado, survival in the chilean hills for 8 days after setting their seaking ablaze, the international press conference, and repatriation to the u.k.

You can google the book, or order on amazon, or direct from pen & sword (publisher).

    hope this helps...

It would appear that the SAS team was led by the then WOII Taff Townsend DCM
