M4-ever! 123456
I didn't realize how much of a truck (weight) the other weapons are. Maybe that is a issue. I'm not mil but I can imagine the lighter the better.
I can bury my M4 in the sand with the ejection port door closed and it will work flewlessly right after I pull it out of the sand.... the HK 416 is very capable, and it has proven to be more reliable than the DI gas guns, but that test is all for show.
From what I've read it seems like the H&K 416 is becoming the standard assault rifle for various Special Operations units around the globe which must be saying something about the weapon...
I read on the H&K website that Norway is adopting the H&K 416 as its standard assault rifle for all it's armed forces
Anyone know why they've chosen this over say the FN SCAR
You'd have to do a search, but I don't believe the SCAR was in the competition... Then again neither was the 416 and that won!
Yeah... seriously, that bury it in the sand test is just for show. If they left the rifles in a sandstorm in Kuwait for a few hours and then fired it, that'd be more interesting. Or, better yet, after a few hours in the sand, give it a little dip in a puddle and then return it to the sandstorm for a few more hours. That would be a lot more interesting and applicable to possible real world conditions (albeit quite extreme ones for my latter suggestion).
As for weight (that the reporter was complaining about), all I can say is, if you find it too heavy, you need to spend a little more time in the gym. Now if we were talking about lugging an FN MAG (or M240 if you prefer that) with ammunition... yes, that IS heavy.
Listen to the Colt CEO..I personally haven't fired M4, therefore I won't comment on it's performance, but I dare to doubt his words ("M4 is the only weapon that has been proven, no other weapon has been day to day in combat except M4s and some M16"), there are other weapons, well proven in intensive combat conditions.
Is it just me, or is the guy in the M4 takedown video really making a meal of it? He drops the lower receiver at one point. Plus each weapon is being stripped to a different extent in each vid, making comparison in ease, speed, or extent of quick stripping fairly pointless.
Great little flash thingy though.
nice vid, didn't know the butstock of the m4 could be used for the hk416.
Another Interesting Link about the failure of the M4

The upcoming comparative dust test at Aberdeen will pit the M4 against the Heckler & Koch 416, the H&K XM8 and FNH USA’s Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle, also known as SCAR.

At first I thought this was a really good site: It was nice to finally SEE the persons who are standing in the background pulling the strings on these procurement decisions voice their opinions. Especially the comment of the Colt CEO made me grin.
But then I clicked the tabs on the upper edge and it turns out they actually have the possibility to compare these guns side by side... and then they let some complete gun newbie do it. I mean come on! At least he admitted it in the first video and he seems pretty objective too, but why don't they let someone with at least a year or two of experience do it!
