Spier, do you notice - accidentally maybe - a new 21st century? Marketing managers did and using this magical number "21" everywhere: Army XXI, Force XXI, Agenda 21 etc.

The little "flag" in front of the trigger on the FA-MAS is just a secondary safety, it has no connection ti the mechanism whatsoever, the safe/semi/full safety, actually connected to the mechanism is located under the shoulderrest, between the magazinewell and the end of the gun...

Please don't take this offensively, but you hate the FAMAS because you don't like the airsoft version?

I think it's rather annoying that people seem to fire airsoft guns and then make real life comparisons. An airsoft gun is a machine with a real gun's housing over it. It fires plastic BBs. It is not a real gun and can't be compared to such!

I dislike to FAMAS to do the weight distribution

the magazie change and the over all "hieght/bulk above the barrell. I found it to be bulky...for long term carry I found it to be not very ergonomical in design of the foregrips and magazine release. But that could be do to muscle memory of other systems.

also the blow back kept putting smoke in our faces..for someone who trained with it for a long period of time, they may find those characteristics negligable.

I don't hate it coz I don't like the airsoft version, I'm not that stupid

I dislike it's looks, bullpup design, where the safety is, difficult mag changes etc.
    I generally dislike bullpups altogether.

Bullpups take some getting used to (particularly if you're used to 'standard' rifle - guilty as charged), but for accuracy, comapctness for AFV/OBUA work and FIWAF you can't beat them (IMHO).

The SA80 has it's problems , the FAMAS is awkward, and I don't much like the sights, the Aussie version of the Steyr is like an Airifx kit, but on the whole if I can't have an L96 or an AK, they're the way ahead - gasp I said it - the L85A2 is growing on me (just had a 5 day swan on Dartmoor with one and not a single problem)

    I'm afraid not

The FA MAS has fire selector inside the handguard, and the additional selector under the housing (behind the magazine). The second one turns on or off the 3 round burst mode.

Check your FA MAS again, ok?

I spit on them all. Give me an SMLE! A M-1903 Springfield! Or, to be a little bit modern, and FAL or an M-14. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Just a thought.

not to change the subject or anything, but while we're on bullpups, how how the hell do you use a bayonet on those things? not that bayonets are used very often (if at all) but wouldnt your average basic training course train u to use a bayonet at some point? it just seems like you couldnt get much 'umph' behind a bullpup... just a thought, a wierd question perhaps...

It maybe a surprise to you, but first bullpup rifle ever was made on base of SMLE (in 1903), also prototype models of FN FAL (in 1949) and M-14 (i.e. Garand T-31) were in bullpup design And the second thing, modern bolt action rilfles are better than the old ones, and they are also in bullpup design e.g. AMP DSR-No.1 (see picture below).

hey guys - the AUG never made it in the RSA cause it missfired too often -- the Swartklip ammmo we use is not very sensitive and less then 1 in 5 rounds would fire due to the light hammer inside it -- the CR-21 is ok but it is really just a nice dress for a R4 -- we are mostly using R5's these days -- - an R4 with the bipod and wire cutters removed and a shortened barrel with a new rifling optimised for the new cartridges and a new hand griip -- shortened gas group/piston etc...

its rugged though -- and pretty accurate - but then it seams to be in our blood to shoot straight - scored 98 out of 100 shots in a 200 mm grouping at 200 meters when i was in the army, most of the guys around me did pretty much the same.
