I think that gets back to individual externalities. We all don't have same needs, operate in the same area, etc. Other thing with a 9mm, it is more adaptable to more people because of the "recoil" factor.
In the 70's the 1911 was rarely chosen because, what I was told, few people could shoot it as well as the Model 19 Smith. Even the talk of moving to a 41 Mag was considered too much pistol for the average shooter.
I have come to the decision that, the opinions are based on many other factors than just the pistol itself and round that it uses.
