which, the shotguns? or the revolvers I mentioned?
Glock 19, or Glock 23 the other ones are no an option for me.
What size are you (height/weight)?
How will you be dressed?
What part of the globe are you in?
What will you be expected to do with this firearm? (Personal protection vs. protecting property, etc.)
What type of environment (urban, rural, closed facility, etc.)
Who will pay for your training and ammo?
Have you ever trained with a handgun before?
Not trying to be difficult, but if you want a professional opinion, these things need to be considered with more than passing interest.
I had a Model 37 (airweight in blue) as a BUG off-duty piece. Nice to carry, rough to shoot. Mine had the original small wood grips and needed the Pachmyr, Hogue upgrade; even the Tyler t-grips didn't really help. Loaded with the old "Treasury load" 158 gr +P+, but I shot mostly 158 gr wadcutters.
I just turned back in my 640-1 (hammerless, stainless) in .357Mag ,but stoked with Federal Nyclad 125 gr +P. Pleasure to carry, not a real bad shooter with rubber grips.
As a home defense gun I would not go with a small 5-shot: too hard to shoot well, only five rounds, and even with a speed-loader it is very slow to reload (plus you have to cut the grips to make room for the speed loader or it will hang up.
More comfy would be a 3-4" K or L-frame S&W (Models 19, 65, 66, etc.) Reloads are faster with the speed loader + you get 1 more round.
Personally, I think a good semi-auto kept in Condition 3 (mag full chamber empty) is a good way to go: very easy to put into action, easier to shoot than a wheelgun and if done right 15-17 rounds, and you might be able to attach a light or laser grip to boot.
I have shot the GLOCK .40 and i like it alot. My room mate has this one and its a cool camo color on the bottom. The weight is just right, and its reliable. This is the exact same one he just purchased.
Get you some hollow points. I got some because i just came back from an evacuation in Houston and well im hanging up a "Protected by Glock" sign on my window to discourage looters.

Reloading is not a cause for concern with me as I figure if she needed to squeeze off some rounds at an intruder that should be enough, I can't imagine her trying to use a speed loader pumped up on adrenaline. I figure if you need a reload against an intruder or when defending your home your troubles are so big you will need something bigger than a hand gun.
I currently keep a Glock 17 in Condition 3 in the night stand, I rotate out the magazines once a month (they are kept half full with roughly 10 rounds of HP). I worry that she will not remember to pull back the slide and chamber a round because fear and or adrenaline. I knows she find comfort in having the Glock there when I'm gone at times for extended periods.
Perhaps this would suit us better. A Dan Wesson .357 Revolver ?
Not bad Pal! I'll look into that.
