Default Obama tells Tenn GOP "Lay off my wife"

WASHINGTON - Democrat Barack Obama has a message for Tennessee's Republican Party: "Lay off my wife."

Obama, his party's presidential front-runner, and his wife, Michelle, were asked in an interview aired Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" about an online video last week by the state's GOP taking her to task for a comment some considered unpatriotic.
"The GOP, should I be the nominee, can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record," Obama said. "If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family."
He called the strategy "low class."
The video, posted on YouTube, centered on remarks Michelle Obama made while campaigning in Wisconsin last February, when she said: "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country."
The four-minute video replayed the remark six times, interspersing it with commentary by Tennesseans on why they are proud of America. In a news release that included a link to the video, Tennessee's GOP said "the Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America." It urged radio stations to play "patriotic music" during Michelle Obama's visit to Nashville last Thursday.
Michelle Obama later clarified the remark, saying she meant she was proud of how Americans were engaging in the political process and that she had always been proud of her country.
"Whoever is in charge of the Tennessee GOP needs to think long and hard about the kind of campaign they want to run, and I think that's true for everybody, Democrat or Republican," Obama said in the ABC interview, adding: "These folks should lay off my wife."
Obama said his wife "loves this country. For them to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her is, I think, just low class. I think that most of the American people would think that as well."
Tennessee's Republican Party was roundly criticized in March, including by likely presidential nominee John McCain, for a news release that used Barack Obama's middle name — Hussein — and showed a photo of him wearing what it said was "Muslim attire."
The release ultimately was removed from the party's Web site at the urging of the state's two Republican senators and Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan, who said he "rejects these kinds of campaign tactics."
Ok, first, being from TN, I gotta say lol! And secondly.....If Obama didn't want others attacking his wife for what she spouts off, he shouldn't have her campaign for him. She becomes fair game once she picks up that microphone.

Nice little summary from Rush Limbaugh on issues we can't talk about Obama:
RUSH: With Obama we started out, we couldn't talk about his big ears 'cause that made him nervous. We've gone from that to this: Not only can we not mention his ears...

We can't talk about his mother.

We can't talk about his father.

We can't talk about his grandmother unless he does, brings her up as a "typical white person."

We can't talk about his wife, can't talk about his preacher, can't talk about his terrorist friends, can't talk about his voting record, can't talk about his religion.

    We can't talk about appeasement.

We can't talk about color; we can't talk about lack of color.

We can't talk about race. We can't talk about bombers and mobsters who are his friends. We can't talk about schooling. We can't talk about his name, "Hussein."

We can't talk about his lack of experience. Can't talk about his income. Can't talk about his flag pin.

This started out we can't call him a liberal.

It started out we just couldn't talk about his ears.

Now we can't say anything about him.

I love how hes always complaining to get special treatment. He's just racking up the footage that would be used against him later. How can she say things like this and not be called on it?

Thing is, I kinda agree with what she says there, even as hypocritical as it is coming from her mouth. I understand that corporate America needs to be there for the economy, I guess in a more idealistic world, teachers and *soldiers* etc. would be the ones making the big bucks.

I don't think he's "taking advice," just repeating what he said. And I was always told OXY was good for your complexion

MOre like be somthing Unionized that the labor leaders can use your dues to pay for my husbands favors. She and her big america hating ass can eff off. She made all those comments at campaign rallys and they are fair game. She is speaking on behalf of Obama. The Salaries will increase when Obama taxes the hell out of people that work for a living to pay for those on some over emotional quest to save the world.

Why should she be called on it? She's not running for office.

Of course, if Michelle Obama is fair game, so is Cindy McCain. Shall we see politics devolve into attacks on candidates spouses?

If their out speaking out behalf of the candidate, or discussing policy, they are free game. If McCain's wife is speaking about policy, she should be fair game too. Name one instance when that hasn't been the case.

In fact, McCain's wife has been attacked quite a bit already on things not at all related to the campaign.

    1. How Cindy McCain was outed for drug addiction
    2. Flawed Cindy McCain has a grudge list

And fair game means open for the worst sort of character assassination possible? If they're the messengers of policy statements, and you attack the policy that's fine, but why is character assassination acceptable politics to you? Do you think our country benefits from that behavior?

What character assassination are you talking about? Every attack that is leveled against Obama or people around him is always said to be underhanded or racist. If you cant go after them for the words they say, than what exactly is fair game to you? The wife of a possible president says shes never been proud of her country till now and she doesn't like corporations. Combine that with the church of 20 years, being outspoken about not wearing a flag pin, "typical white people" and questions start to arise!

If she is out acting as a defacto campaign manager and representing her husband then everything that comes out of her mouth is fair game. And unlike his retarded crazy ex pastor he can't cut her loose. I think it's a good idea to know what's in the head of the candidates spouse.

I think Hillary Clinton would be more than a little familiar with being in that position than most.
