    Default New Egyptian RPG'S?

Hey, has anyone heard of the egyptian made Cobra rocket-propelled grenades? Debka.com says that the IDF found some of these in gaza. Anyone know if they are any different from the RPG's being used in iraq or anywhere else?

    Description:

The SAKR Cobrra anti-tank weapon system is an improved warhead for the standard PG-7 weapon system.... The fuzing system is electromagnetic and is initiated by contact between the double ogives of the warhead. It is capable of functioning at angles of 80 dgerees from normal and has a response time less than 10 us. The Cobra warhead has been demonstrated penetrating over 500 mm of armor steel at 3.5 calibres standoff distance in static tests.

That must be a typing error, correct one is ~ 20 to 40m.. i guess.

And while we are at the subject of PRG rounds..

Can somebody indentify this one, doesnt seem to me as "regular" HEAT yet im 100% sure this isnt the tandem HEAT either, nor the FRAG variant..

    Picture is from Iraq..

    200 metre Arming Distance ?
No... that's 200 Meters Minimum range for the weapon, not arming distances... 350 Meters Effective Range and a maximum of 500 Meters...

I dont understand the difference, if its armed then it should be able to damage the target, and hense have a much lower minimum range than that no ?

Unless of course, the launcher only has sight markings for 200-500m ?

I believe the arming distances are 40-50 meters on most of the RPG-7 inspired rounds.

Keep in mind velocity is a part of the equation, if you want to use it at 75 Meters the velocity it has at this point may only be in the 120-200 m/s range. Maximum velocities on these are normally 300 m/s so I imagine the minimum range listed previously take into account the round having reached it's max velocity...

Velocity is only important for accuracy. The penetrating power of the warhead is not greatly effected by the projectiles velocity. Most shaped charge rounds fired from tank guns travel at about 900m/s while shaped charge warheads in mines have a velocity of 0m/s. Standoff distance, angle in incidence, materials used (liners and explosive), and shape and especially the width of the shaped charge are the most important factors regarding penetration.
