The J-57 was originally made for the A-3 Skywarrior. The F-4 version had afterburners added to it. Hell of a Turbojet engine. I have seen it come back with most of its last stage Turbine blades missing and the only complain from the pilot was that it is running a little rough.

    Davis-Monthan Air base.
The best place to keep aircrafts in mothballs, due to very low humidity. Most military Arcraft there can be brought back into service in no time do to proper preservation technics used on the airframes and the engines. The white covers you see on the canopy is designed to keep the temperature of inside of the cockpit to a tolerable degree that will not damage the avionics or the aircraft seals. Have you seen how huge that place is?
If you are ever down in Tucson DO NOT miss going for some fresh beer at the Nimbus Brewery and a visit to the best damn steakhouse in the world, the Pinnacle Peak……do not wear a tie when you go there because they will cut it.

The majority of them have already met the fate of a missile over the Gulf of Mexico or White Sands Missile Range. They've been converted into drones for about a decade now, along with the F-4Es and now a few RF-4Cs.

My reply was directed to timetraveller. Sorry Chiptox

I know, I got all missed up myself thinking about it………it is all Chiptox’s fault.

Inside tip: Take a jug with you when you go to the Nimbus factory, they will fill you up “to go”……..and do take an old tie when you go the Pinnacle Peak so they can added to the thousands of other collections hanging from the ceiling. Now this is where real cowboys themselves cook your steak in an amazing skillful old fashion way and serve it to you. I mean we are talking about a BBQ pit that lowers and raises with chains.....you gotta see it and tasted, nothing like it anywhere.
