Some news about ARM participation in ISAF. I guess they'll increase the number of troops by 30% or so.
DM Konjanovski: Macedonia to strengthen Afghanistan contribution Brussels, June 12 (MIA) - Macedonia's contribution is quite significant in delivering security, but also in the building of Afghanistan's security capacities, said Defense Minister Zoran Konjanovski in Friday's address before counterparts at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council with countries contributing to the ISAF mission, MIA reports from Brussels.
According to Konjanovski, Macedonian peacekeepers are properly doing their job as guards of the ISAF Command, instructors in operational-mentor liaison teams and the A3 team.
He announced that Macedonia's contribution in Afghanistan would enhance in the future.
"The Government has demonstrated its will through additional units in Afghanistan by 2010, who will provide training to Afghan security forces together with the Vermont National Guard forces", stressed DM Konjanovski.
Confirming Macedonia's commitment to Afghanistan's future, Konjanovski stressed this is the Alliance's crucial priority.
"Our commitment to this crisis region reflects our awareness, experience and strategic priorities. Through our own example, we appreciate the Alliance's regional approach towards Afghanistan", stressed the Defense Minister.
According to him, this is the only reasonable response to present challenges, since the success of a country will be permanent only if is an integral part of the region's success in general.
"My country is a confirmation of this fact, because it is part of a region that has been until recently a source of uncertainty and instability, but is now a contributor with a clear perspective. We believe this is a joint, but also our individual success, since intensive regional cooperation and mentoring has contributed to the Euro-Atlantic and European perspective of Macedonia and the entire region", underlined Konjanovski.
Moreover, he expressed hope that Macedonia would soon assume its place among equals, because "this will encircle the Alliance's security architecture for the Balkans, giving Macedonia an additional incentive to contribute further to the common goal".
Prior to the meeting, DM Konjanovski attended a ceremony honoring soldiers killed in NATO-led operations, which was held in front of the Alliance Headquarters. ik/fd/14:38
