I'm pretty sure I forgot to post these photos from Red Flag 08-04. I believe I only put up the video. A little late but still a great looking aircraft.

    The first Rafale "Red Flag"

For the Air Force, two years after its official entry into service in Saint Dizier, summer 2008 was an opportunity to assess for the first time the Rafale very strong part in a war game widespread in Nevada, this after a crossing of the American continent achieved after crossing the Atlantic via the Azores.
    [...]
The detachment of 85 people, under the command of Colonel Philippe Poireault, head of the device, and Lt. Colonel Fabrice Grandclaudon, commander of the 1 / 7, included in all fourteen pilots, six navigators, an intelligence officer and 39 mechanics operating into two teams, one for daytime flights and one for night flights. S'y ajoutaient des commandos de l'air chargés de la sécurité des avions. Addition, there were air commandos responsible for aircraft safety.
    [...]
The Rafale B conducted for ten days in Red Flag four sorties daily for 2 h on average (1 strike daytime + 1 night) in team(Blue Air) with a fifty to sixty aircraft in general .This per day temperatures above 45 ° C almost identical to those suffered in Kandahar, Afghanistan. These temperatures were also more challenging for crews and mechanics than for the aircraft, the reserve power take-off M88 drivers who provided a comfortable starting thrust missions. the planes were routinely fitted with three 1200 liters supersonic tanks to mimic configuration heavy war.
    [...]
The Rafale has very well behaved and has fulfilled its part of missions, and even easier with all sensors and systems for data link (Link 16) he has. We can say that for the first time, unlike exercises precedents on Jaguar or Mirage F1 and 2000, the French Red Flag flying on a plane comparable generation that had nothing to envy to those of their American counterparts, Korean and Indian.Given also performed mission profiles to a theater threats saturated soil-air and air-air, the Rafale also clearly demonstrated its ability to penetrate enemy air defenses through a very powerful weapon which the new AASM bomb is not foreign.
While individual participants were not particularly impressed by the capacity "swing role" of the Rafale - the Su-30MKI, the F-15E Strike Eagle and F-15K Slam Eagle have already - its the undeniably sensor accuracy of the Rafale and its air-ground weapons stand-off "who impressed the gallery.. "On the Rafale the fusion of sensors is an extraordinary concept that is very successful. There has never been any differences of slopes between the various sensors" added the commander of 1 / 7. The Rafale was present in all missions main interest including at least two missions as "mission control" ..During the missions of "self escort" or "organic escort," the Rafale/F2 + enabled to present the complete range of aviation capabilities of the new aircraft.
    [...]
Asked about the state of the logistics of the Rafale, Lt. Col. Grandclaudon noted that the logistics of his squadron networked computer with the BA113 Saint-Dizier (through arpagon system that can send data via satellite techniques of each aircraft after each flight) allowed throughout the Red Flag to have an improved traceability of spare parts. Now essentially curative rather than preventive, it is then a maintenance lean: it changes only what is necessary, which is cheaper and allows projections logistical lighter.

    Rafale for Qatar ?

Qatar: Sheikh Tamim and the Rafale issue
Posted on: Mon, Feb 08, 2010

Crown Prince of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani met with President Nicolas Sarkozy and Defence Minister Hervé Morin in Paris last week. The Rafale issue is said to have been raised during his meeting either with Sarkozy or with Morin. The following 435-word report sheds light on the issue and tells what Sheikh Tamim told about it and how Sarkozy and Morin reacted.

Qatar Emiri Air Force has 12 Mirage 2000-5.

Qatar Emiri Air Force, a brief history

Its ties with Great Britain and France are clearly reflected in the Qatar Emiri Air Force that was formed in 1974. Operating mainly British and French equipment. The first jet aircraft to enter QEAF service was the Hunter of which four were delivered. The UK also delivered Westland built Commando, Whirlwind and Lynx Helicopters while France provided Qatar with AMD Alpha Jets and Sud Aviation SA342 Gazelles. These were, in 1983, supplemented by AMD built Mirage F-1s that were subsequently transferred to Spain after the arrival of the first of twelve Mirage 2000-5s in 1997. These Mirage 2000s now form the fighter-backbone of the QEAF. The delivery of 18 BAE Systems Hawk Mk.100s is delayed due to budget restraints.

All this talk about "supporting a seat at the security council" is just a smoke-screen, IMHO... It simply does not make sense. This however:

    http://www.upi.com/Business_News/Sec...6461254168185/

    and:

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/brazil/nuke.htm

During his winning campaign in January 2003, leftist Workers' Party presidential candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the 1970 Non-Proliferation Treaty as unfair. "If someone asks me to disarm and keep a slingshot while he comes at me with a cannon, what good does that do?" da Silva asked in a speech. He later said Brazil has no intention to develop nuclear arms.
There are strong forces in Brazil that wants to obtain nuclear weapons. This would probably trigger embargo from the US. Thus Lula would like to avoid military equipment with US components at all costs, and become as independent as possible. That's the real reason for this strong push to work with France.

The US will probably ask the French some questions when this happens, like: "Did France know about the Brazilian nuclear program" and "did France assist Brazil..."

...how about China pressure on France, regarding Taiwan when needing new warplanes for example?
