Dilma must set fighter bid this year
    Epoca, May 16

The President Rousseff is willing to answer the call of Aeronautics and choose this year the supplier for new fighters. The definition depends in a large part on a new proposal of the French President, Francois Hollande. The Brazilian government is uncomfortable with the fact that the French Dassault, maker of the Rafale, have offered to India better prices than those presented to Brazil. Dilma expects Hollande review the proposal on the table and put a discount.

Well, Dilma, buy 126 Rafales like India and you sure will have a discount

General Jean-Paul Paloméros, Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CEMAA), hosted his Indian counterpart, Air Chief Marshal Anil Kumar Norman Browne, on the air base 117 of Paris, Tuesday Morning, May 22, 2012.

Military honors were rendered to him by a section of the Musique de l'Armee de l'Air in Paris, while the national anthems of both countries were played . General Paloméros then met with Air Chief Marshal Browne, before presenting him the organization of the French Air Force.

In the afternoon, the Indian CEMAA also met Jean-Yves Le Drian, Defence Minister, and Admiral Edouard Guillaud, Chief of Defence Staff.

The official visit of Air Chief Marshal Browne should continue until Friday, May 25, 2012 , he will visit operational airbases 113 at Saint-Dizier, 709 at Cognac and 125 at Istres.

This movement is a continuation of a rich bilateral cooperation, reinforced by ties of friendship between the two air forces. As a reminder, General Paloméros had visited India twice in 2011: in February, the International Airshow Aeroindia ( Internet link to the brief ), then from 19 to 22 September 2011, as part of an official visit

Indian AF Chief Visits Rafale as Talks Continue With Dassault

[...]The official release refers to the Rafale as the “MMRCA selected by the IAF,” but a senior Defence Ministry official here noted that Rafale is only the short-listed aircraft for the MMRCA program, and that negotiations are still underway with French company Dassault, which builds the Rafale.[..]

New DCNS carrier deck coating process validated on CVN Charles de Gaulle
Recent tests have demonstrated the effectiveness of new coatings applied to the flight deck of CVN Charles de Gaulle using a process tailored by DCNS. Phase I of this programme involved the application of new coatings to the landing zone, the portion of the flight deck subject to highest stresses.

The tests, involving landings by Rafale Marine combat aircraft, demonstrated the new coating’s qualities. The advanced materials and application process help reduce nose gear loads suffered by in-coming aircraft while ensuring excellent grip between tyre and deck.

Hollande trip to Brazil can be decisive for the purchase of fighter jets
    AFP, May 23

BRASILIA, May 23 2012 (AFP)-The visit of French President, Francois Hollande, Brazil may be decisive in winning a multi-million dollar bid for the purchase of fighter jets, for which compete the U.S., France and Sweden, said on AFP Wednesday, a government source in Brasilia.

"The visit of Hollande can untie the knot" and help define the bidding, said the source, who declined to be identified.
    [...]
"At this moment, none of the proposals please us", because France has a high price and Brazil fears the intentions of the United States to transfer their technology, despite having obtained the commitment of Congress and President Barack Obama, the source said.

Hollande's visit to Brazil, scheduled for the Rio +20 summit, between 20 and 22 June, can help to clarify the french proposal and conditions, the source said.
    [... ]
The recent decision by India to enter into exclusive negotiations with France to buy 126 Rafale, as part of a bid estimated at 12 billion dollars, brought news to the negotiation, the main one being more a convenient price than the one offered to Brazil.

A proposal of India to enter the Brazilian contract did not enjoy Brazil, since the government wants to build the aircraft on Brazilian soil, the source said.
