We've got lots of Saffies, Rhodesians/Zimbabweans, Vietnamese, Indians, Poms, Kiwis, Sudanese, Pacific Islanders, Italians, Lebanese and a boat load of others living here. A lot of them congregate in communities within communities. The Saffies are just one more part of the rainbow.

That's cause you got to buy your pork from us krauts or the wogs
Melbourne has sensational smallgood shops .
Try Preston , Victoria or South Melbourne markets.
I got some smoked sausages from one of our Polish contractors , legendary stuff.
Most mass produced hams are terrible though I have to agree.
Used to get one for christmas from work , they always had gelantine injected in them , makes cheap meat moist.

I met a few Brits down in SA. Some were c*cks - I dont reckon they emigrated so much as got thrown out of blighty. The ones that had got stuck into the Aussie lifestyle and mucked in were the ones to go drinking and fishing with. Mind you, they were still as confused about footy rules as I am - even after ten, twenty years down the line.

How many times a week, does the average Australian, eat meat from sheep, goats etc? It is near impossible to find any lamb, or mutton here. Seems like all you see at the stores here is beef, chicken, pork, turkey. Lamb is very expensive here.

I had difficulty in getting decent mutton over which sort of surprised me. Guess most of it gets sold abroad to the ME etc.

evidently it is really inexpensive, at least in the part of oz my friend lives in, as he says they eat it a lot....but that is in Tasmania. maybe they have more sheep there than the mainland??

Goat, not a real big seller here, maybe as pet food, I've never seen it in the shop, not that I've gone looking for it.
Lamb is the go, if you're eating hogget or mutton you need a good talking too. Unless you actually like your meat almost as chewy as jerky when it's freshly killed.
I was bought up on lamb, fresh kill from the paddock, some of my earliest memories are of dad killing and butchering sheep. We'd have it 4 or 5 times a week, chops, lamb roast, or casseroles.

Funnily enough I had difficulty in getting decent mutton in Adelaide. Beef and chicken - no problem. When i did find it, it was cheaper to go for beef.
@digrar - just let me loose on a hogget when I'm over mate - I'll convert you. It will melt in your mouth. Got to be properly hung mind - forget this fresh from the freezer works rubbish.

Why are Australians such awesome people? Is it something in the water they drink?

I have nothign agains goats, you have to cook them long. My grandfather had 3-4. Once he cooked an old one, we couldn't eat it, but he kept them for milk.

Here in Tassie, we eat lamb at least once a week, mostly chops.
