Wikipedia: CHINA The World's Next Superpower! Before 2030

    秦(Qin / Chin)-China 中國(Zhōngguó)-Middle Kingdom.
Wikipedia: If the economy continues moving at the same rate,China should overtake Japan as second in 2011 and should replace the U.S.A as the world's largest economy & superpower on earth in 2030,meaning that the U.S.A will have been the world's superpower for [90years].Great Britain was the world's biggest economy & superpower, they replaced China from Mar1736 till Nov1940 [204years]. China & India was the world's richest nation & superpower from 2500BC till March1736.

    The next superpower:
Wikipedia:The People's Republic of China receives almost continual coverage in the popular press of its potential superpower status, and has been identified as a rising or emerging economic and military superpower by academics and other experts.Professor Shujie Yao of Nottingham University has said "China will overtake the United States to become the world's largest economy by 2030 if current growth rates continue", and that China's GDP will overtake that of Japan by 2011, and Germany's by 2008. Professor Yao thinks that "under an optimistic scenario", "China could become a real superpower in little more than 20 years.

Who knows, they might over-reach themselves and get a smack down, imperial Japan style.

Remember when Japan was going to be the next superpower, and Japan was going to own all over America and then what happened........

There has never been a boom without a bust, and China may have to learn what happens after booms. Don't get too ahead of yourself China. Things are going well. But Asia has been smashed by economic crises before, remember..Japan.

Well, well, well, China is very different of Japan.

I'm thinking actually more than a few years away. It would probably be more like 30 to 50 years as China has become a superpower possibly getting close to the US with upgraded military abilities and a vast resource of human capital to draft soldiers for combat wherever China wants. I can only hope the US stays ahead of China economically and militarily but China could grow into a formible force especially given time. With great power they say comes great responsibility and great power often gets abused. I can imagine an army of 200 million but it would be a colossal undertaking and difficult to stop. Right now I just see this as a be peaceful, acquire technology, expand business phase of development. Later on, I can imagine China starting to flex more and more muscle.

*Sigh* To begin with, Wikipedia is not an authoritative source. When your chief measure of accuracy is 'consensus' and rogue edits can go for months without being corrected it's hard to be taken seriously as a truly reliable source.

But most importantly, the supposition itself is flawed. It depends on current growth rates remaining constant for twenty years, which is about as likely as me winning this year's Mr Universe (ie, don't bet on it). China's stratospheric growth rates have been coming off a low base, but as its economy keeps growing it is going to become more and more difficult to maintain the same rate of growth. Even if it doesn't experience a bust after this boom, it will begin growing slower and slower every year. There are other factors that will come into play as well, as the country runs into the inherent limitations of financial infrastructure (such as the banking system) which have never had the chance to recover and restructure for the economy's growth and size.

So it's a pointless prediction. China will only overtake the US in 2030 if both countries maintain their current growth rates and that's not going to happen.

It's certainly possible that China will one day overtake the US as the world's biggest economy, in fact with nearly five times more people than the US you'd think it's almost inevitable. But a lot would depend on whether China was able to achieve the same level of innovation and productivity from its people as the US does and whether it's able to complete the free market capitalist reforms it has undertaken thus far. If it can't do that, or the Chinese Communist Party insists on continuing their efforts at mixing a totalitarian political system with a free economy, they're going to find it difficult to overtake the US in anything.

On topic. I do believe China will become the next superpower, doubt they will overtake the US though, or even EU, which by 2030 might look a bit different.

In additon of that 5X more people, how many are reaping the wealth that is seen in the main cities of China? Last time I spoke with some expatriots who came from the country side and rural areas of China, they are not to happy with the system. Trickle down economics? I wish the Chinese good Joss (Luck), they are a long established civilization but has a history of inner conflict. I hope that they can grow with out strife but for that to happen the Communist Party must free it's people not just the economy.
