Why thank you Mr Lawyer dude. I'll sleep well tonight.
I was driven insane by trying to work out how to embed for Youtube and Liveleak. I now know how to do both, and wanted to record for other people so they would not similarly be tempted to start self-harm in frustration.
Youtube
1. Go to the Youtube page you want. Cut and paste the URL from your browser exactly as it appears, like so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVHLvtArC_g
Ok, now:
Note the following, use the remove link button as follows: thats the world with a small paperclip underneath it. Cut and paste into word also works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVHLvtArC_g
Now, I have bolded and coloured red the bit, that you need to remove. It was hard to see the bold for the equals sign, so i made it larger.
Now, remove all the things that are in RED and put a forward slash after the 'v' - a forward slash is / for those who dont know.
So you have the following:
http://www.youtube.com/v/cVHLvtArC_g
Then add [embed] at the front. You need to put a forward slash in front of /embed at the end and close it with brackets.

Ok, when you are liveleak embedding you need to do almost the same as the above, but with one difference.
go to www.liveleak.com
Click on view embed code. For vbulletin, the embed code wont work, but what you are searching for is a bit of code that you will pull out of there:
<object width="450" height="370"><param name="movie" value="http://www.liveleak.com/e/5d6_118580...</param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.liveleak.com/e/5d6_1185807321" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="450" height="370"></embed></object>
Ok - the bit you want, is the second bit with the 'e' in it:
http://www.liveleak.com/e/5d6_1185807321
so get this bit and do as follows, put embed tags around it. You can use the 'vid' button on the toolbar on Vbulletin. Again strip out the hotlink
And then you are the liveleak embedding maestro!
All joking aside I have been wondering that.I asked someone once but since I never used it I forgot and did not want to ask again .
Thanks Cal this is handy for new members as well. You did your good deed for the day.
My next project is to work out how to do break.com which is another reasonably often used vid website.
No offense, counsellor, but you're doing it manually.
A simple code in here can be written (a mod can do that) that will automatically do all the steps you just described once a YouTube or a LiveLeak URL is posted up.
Much like auto-resizing for large pics and how the word "shit" turns to "****".
At least that's how I think it works.
Cheers.![]()
Yes, a code can be written custom for Vbulletin and installed. In the absence of said code - we have to do it manually! There are various tutorials about it. I remember seeing something however that said admins were opting to turn all that stuff off because of the potential for user haX0rs messing with the board.
Didn't know that. Thanks.
This haX0rs thing is pretty interesting.
Youtube links work nowadays without that laborious manual process. Just copy&paste the link and it will work without any editing or embed tags.
