It looks like it was fired from a U.S Navy ship. This is a well known picture anyway, I seen it in books, magazines, shows, and on the internet.

Me too I used to like the Cobra, but that was when I was a little boy.

This morning (as usual) I talked about flying with my driver while going to the office.
He used to be a cobra pilot during the whole war, and was an instructor in the Army Aviation flying school (Havanirouz) after the war before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He says the cobra is great, but now after more than 30 years with minimum maintenance, some of the engines have exceeded their life time (TBO) with more than 3 times, they are complete death traps, and flying is kept to a minimum.

No offense but how can we trust your driver as a reliable source ? When was the last time he was in the Iranian Air force?

I think it's some kind of powder or color. Look at his arm and face, he has it everywhere.

He has a straightforward professional and technical opinion based upon almost 30 years of experience. He has no whatsoever reason to lie in such matters. Therefore I rather think that we will have difficulties in finding a more reliable source.

Actually since I find it quite bad that senior officers has to go work (small pensions) after a long career, I try to hire them whenever I can. Therefore we have quite a few within our company (mainly ex-pilots, C-130, F5, F4, etc…).

Note also that this Marine appears to be carrying an old British SAS/Para Butyl Nylon Bergan.I wonder if this is an issue item,locally made copy or somthing that he aquired privately.

3 years ago sounds doesn’t sound right . I too had drivers in Iran who calimed to be in the army , airforce, and have connections in higher authority but I never really believed them. Some of these drivers make up stories to make you feel sorry for them or for other reasons. The only way to be sure is to have actuall evidence which shows he was in the airforce. I would of believed your story if this “driver” retired from the airforce 15 + years ago . But now , the government takes care of people who have access to sensative information such as your drivers fearing that they mighht open their mouth because of reprecautions .

HESA Azarakhsh








The HESA Azarakhsh (Lightning) is an indigenously manufactured fighter from Iran. The aircraft appears to be based on the Northrop F-5, although larger by 10%-15%. The Azarakhsh is said to use an upgraded version of N-019 Topaz (N-019ME) radar. Several Azarakhsh fighters performed a flyby at the 2008 Military Day in Tehran.

The Panha 2091 is an Iranian overhaul and upgrade of the Bell AH-1J Sea Cobra light-attack helicopters purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The overhaul and upgrade program is known as project number 2091 of the Iranian Helicopter Support and Renewal Company (Panha). Reported upgrades include: new cockpit armoured panels, new Iranian-designed canopy, new avionics, nose mounted camera, new cockpit design.
