Default Attack on U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen

CNN) -- A powerful car bomb exploded outside the gate of the U.S Embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa Wednesday causing "multiple casualties," an embassy spokesman told CNN.

It was not immediately known who or how many people were hurt in the blast shortly after 0700 GMT, which was followed by several secondary explosions, Ryan Gliha said.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to German News there were two consecutive explosions at the embassy, and the building was attacked with car bombs and rockets.

U.S. spokesperson Ryan Gliha claimed there were three casualties, 2 police officers and one attacker as well as over a dozen neighbors injured. So far no American casualties have been reported.

According to eyewitness reports, the attackers wore police uniforms and opened fire from a moving vehicle, targeting a road block only 100m from the embassy. Following the first attack, a second vehicle raced towards the embassy gate and exploded.

Ambulances were on scene and several hundred heavily armed security forces have surrounded the embassy.

Apparently AFP received a communique from a group calling itself "Islamic Jihad" claiming responsibility. They are also threatening the embassies of Saudi Arabia, the UK and the UAE.

According to analysts, no group by that name has previously been active in Yemen and its likely that the resurgent offspring of AQ in Yemen is responsible for the attacks.

    According to news sources:

    - 6 terrorists, 6 police officers and 4 civilians killed, 16 others injured.
    - 2 car bombs, terrorists dressed as policemen armed with Machine Guns and RPGs, at least one attacker was wearing a suicide vest,
    - sniper fire targeting first responders

Nothing about a gate breech, but apparently the building is one of the best fortified in the country and no embassy staff were injured.

RIP to those that gave their lives to fend of this attack

On the premise you are asking a serious question, rather than doing a bit of baiting (as your ! at the end suggests....)

If this was as AQ, or AQ-related group doing the bombing, they have no love for either the Wahabist rulers of Saudi Arabia (who after all kicked Bin Laden out) or the Western-looking and highly modernized society that the UAE is creating on oil and finance. So they are prime targets along with we infidels.

    Press on.
