By the way Dig, don't know if your bike shop did a complete body adjustment on your ride? It's a major step toward comfort, it'll make your ride far more enjoyable.
I've seen people having 6000$ worth of bike being not able to ride more than 10Ks because it wasn't tuned for their physique.
Another thing I would advise, get rid of those crappy pedals... They'll only get you killed if for some reasons your foot gets snagged in there while you need to stop.
I would personnaly recommend a basic pair of clipless once you get used to the bike, will be more easier to ride for some distance.
I've taken off the clips (just popped the reflectors off and unscrewed them), they're a horribly designed piece of kit.
I also got some non homo mountain bike bike shorts with the comfy bum padding. Problem solvered.
