Why sit in a dark and cramped hot space with bad air, when you can have all the space and fresh air and light outside.

It's just a typical case of "lessons learned".

Riding ON BTR's is way safer than riding IN them.

Think of Mines, IED's and so on. Dismounting is also a lot quicker, and when your APC is hit by an RPG it's not important if you are on it or in it - you're phugged either way

If you are refering to the ones with the radio, they are from the 4th Armored Division. If talking about the ones with the boonie hat, they are Caribes, along with the snipers.

I am surprised they replaced the PASGT's already, though.
