Cpl Apiata VC, on interview, come across as a very humble and qietly spoken bloke.Very much a guy of his family, and his mates.
We live in a time of media celebrity where, too many so called 'stars' and 'celebrities' have far too much to say about very little(and mostly about themselves) and here's a bloke,a true Kiwi hero much in the mould of Upham VC and Sir Edmund Hillary, who says very little and not much about himself. That, in itself says an awful lot.
New Zealand is fortunate to have men such as Willie Apiata.

Finally, some decent NZ photos. Good job!
Great pics, the Seasprite is a cool looking chopper glad the kiwis got there's operational unlike us wasting millions.
Wouldn't be too sure about that, Seasprites cost APX $48,000 per hour to operate, as opposed to an NH90 which is around $4000 i think.
This is mainly driven by the cost of spares. There is a seasprite sitting at the back of a hanger at the air-force museum, donated by Kaman as a display.
Now its up on jacks as it became.... necessary to take the landing gear off it.
Or so i'm told.
Those were the figures I was given by an officer in working on the NH90 project for NZ. the I THINK, comes from i cant remember whether the NH90 is 4k (NZD) or 6k (NZD) it was one of the two.
Man, this thread is slow, but I love it! NZDF helped S'pore in its early years, I remember when I was young I saw a pic of a NZ Inf instructor teaching S'pre troops in jungle warfare during a war game exercise against a nation caalled Ganeasian or something, and an NZ helo mechanic? teaching 2 S'poreans. I believe you guys were mainly stationed at the Dieppe Barracks. Still there as of today.
