Question, what is status of MTIP-2 turret upgrade for FV510 Warrior?

It is going ahead, but the numbers may be reduced.

From an Army SDSR Q&A session:
    31. How many CR2 and AS90 will the British Army retain?

    227 CR2 (from 384) and 95 AS90 (from 146).

    32. When will CR2 and AS90 reductions take effect?

From the next FY: Wef 1 April 2011.

    33. What impact will the reductions in CR2 and AS90 have on those units?

One Bty in each of the five AS90 Regt’s will re-role to 105mm Lt Gun in order that each Regt has a mix of capabilities to deploy in support of current operations. CR2 Regts will see no significant changes, less a reduction to unit-holdings of MBT.

    34. What will happen to those CR2 and AS90 that we no longer require?

The disposal plan for CR2 and AS90 has yet to be decided.

    35. Will the CR2 and WR upgrade programmes still go ahead?

We believe that both the CR2 and WR upgrade programme will continue, but may be subject to savings (reduced numbers and a reduced capability against current plans).

MTIP-2 is still in competition against the Lockheed Martin turret.

According to a former colleague of mine, there hasn't been a firm decision on whether to proceed with the WCSP or not (it wasn't mentioned in the SDSR) and they don't expect one to be made for several weeks.

However, since development of FRES Scout with the 40mm CTWS armament has been secured in the SDSR, the treasury has been advised that the unit price of ammunition will be greater if it is only used on the Scout vehicle. Qualification trials on the weapon aren't expected to start until next year.

After all the bright and cheerfull colours of the other pictures we have the imposing greyness of the MOD building.

Can only assume the RGR bloke is the one sandwiched between the Cav fella in the foreground and the afghan.

Please say his rifle is not resting on the floor or has a dust cap on
And the pouches could be there private ones.

Good to see that the sound cancelling headphones we all go issued have fallen from favour having been out there for less than a month, we all knew they were crap, but at least the umbrella has gone up for any deafness claims that might be made against the MOD.

The muzzle and ground thing is a constant naus' if you use the issued butt clip to retain the weapon, that said -on gravel- I cant really imagine it being a problem.

We all got our fandangled sound cancelling earplugs moulded and sent to us before we went out, I couldnt have them in for more than afew seconds before my ears ached like hell...absolute ****e and no-one used 'em.

Apparently they were rather expensive too, abit of a costly mistake kitting 130 blokes out with them which they were just left in lockers.
