I think the flash hider came in at the same time as the rail system and ACOG at the end of 2007.

Remembrance Day poppies lay on a soldier's kit at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. On the 11th November of each year, the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries remember the servicemen and women who have given their lives for their country during conflict. The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance in the UK. Each year millions of pounds are raised by the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal for different Forces welfare projects.

Didn't realise that Britain used simunition (I'm assuming from the description), is it in widespread use or is it just for special purposes such as this?

It's use was fairly limited a few years ago, not sure about now.

Royal Engineers help clear Kandahar of insurgents

Royal Engineers have spent the past two months helping Afghan and US forces clear insurgents from a key area of Kandahar province from where they have been launching attacks on the city. Since September, 5 Armoured Engineer Squadron, part of 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault), has been providing close engineering support to the 2nd Battalion of the US Army's 502nd Infantry Regiment and their partnered Afghan National Army Kandak (battalion) in Kandahar's Zharay district.
