Unfortunatley this is correct if Airbus had goten its act together it could have been serious compition to the C130J however the demands of many airforces who were in the market for it were dictated by their support for the Afghanistan mission so they needed an airlifter now not in 5 years time.
Seems pretty standard, cut excellent systems such as the Harrier and carry on pouring money into projects that are absolute junk. This is the story of the MOD's life. Look back at the Cheiftan's engine, the TSR2, SA-80 etc.. The people at the top are mongs and always have been.

Agreed.....Is the A400M a **** up?...I think you could say it was, but I also have a feeling that a few years after service entry, people will be wondering how they did without it.
