I've a feeling that there is another small airliner/executive jet with the petal-type planks, but it escapes me at present. As you have probably gathered, I'm a bit of a Buccaneer obsessive

Buccaneer S.2B XV352 of 237 OCU on take-off from its former home here at Lossiemouth. Its nose section is now resident at a museum at Manston in Kent.

Actually I grew up with the Jerry Anderson stuff, but only really watched Thunderbirds. I can see a certain resemblance of TB2 to the Bucc's area ruled fuselage/boundary layer control wing.

In reality, the Buccaneer is virtually unique - aerodynamics-wise, perhaps the closest thing was the Supermarine Scimitar (another DW-fave) which also had an area ruled fuselage. One of my son's kindergarten teachers was the wife of the most experienced Buccaneer pilot of them all who I have mentioned before. He shared quite a few first-hand accounts of the Buccaneer world over the odd pint or five. He once described to me how the Buccaneer would cruise in ground effect at high speed with very little effort, the Buccaneer was in effect an ekranoplan at low level over the sea.

He took the Bucc to war in GW1, and I think also participated in operations over Beirut in the 1980s.

As I'm sure every CQMS has said: "If it is too small, it'll stretch. If it is too big it'll shrink. If it is just right bring it back so it can be too big or too small for someone else."

    Bear - out.

Soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment head out on a normal routine patrol in the area of the Showal bazaar today (26 Mar 11) in Afghanistan. The men from A Company are now able to step outside their patrol base and chat to the locals in an area that has seen significant change over the past six months.

Through strong tactics and persistence the boys from 3 Para have restored a sense of security within the local area and have improved relations with the Afghan National Army (ANA), with whom they regularly patrol. Crown Copyright MoD

Budget cuts innit (not recent ones either). Not enough course slots to get everyone winged before arriving in Bn. So lots have to wait.

As you can see (above) I mentioned the BAe 146/Avro RJ already - I'm rather familiar with it having about 70 or so flights in them.

I'm pretty sure that there's another executive jet/feeder-liner with similar air brakes but I'm damned if I can remember what it is.

Fokker 70/100 (and also the Fokker F28, if we're going way back)
