To acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, subsequently de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

A. it was almost 150 years ago
B.Thousand of Americans died to help gain Blacks their freedom. ( A cost more than paid in blood)
C.Take my family for example, we got here in 1914, why should we have to pay a dime? because we are white? sounds kinda racist.
Of course, I am responsible so I and a bunch of other innocents must pay.
this bill is a joke, pretty much 8,000,000 to find out if slavery was bad.
None of those alive today suffered or profited from slavery. Why should there be reparations?
Not to mention many black people got to US after slavery ended. Reparations can only be done by the offending party to the direct claimants. That window ended in late 19th century.
Instead of repatriation why dont you offer them a free one way ticket back to Africa.
Also will the arab countries be making similar payments as their role in slavery was equal if not greater that that of the western nations ?
There is still slavery in some muslim countries.

I think reparations and apologies are empty gestures that make governments look considerate and win a few more votes.
The aboriginal community of Australia was pushing their agenda of an apology for the "Stolen Generation"- the removal of Aboriginal children based on the assumption that the aboriginal people were a dying race. the children were placed in "white" homes to give them a chance at survivial.
An apology (an admission of guilt) would have paved the way for legal action against the Australian Government. our PM Rudd got around it with some clever wording.
I think we should all move on and put the past where it belongs. the only people with true claim to the reparations are already dead.

Al Qaeda should use their resources and help pass this legislation. This bill would damage the country far more than another terror attack.
K, this is yet another thing I am currently hating. The day I give ANYONE reparations is the day I put a shotgun in my mouth and play "Spray Munkz Brains All Over the Wall". I wish I could express my total disgust over this. The two Senators that introduced this bill should be publicly drawn and quartered.

Not to mention that many if not most of the (blacks/african americans/ pick your PC name) are not 100% african ancestory, most are mixed blood with Anglos or Native Americans, ......so do they pay reparations also? Take the First Lady, she is by her husbands admission not 100% african ancestry. Therefore if EVERYONE has to pay reparations....what is the point?
