Hi everybody,
I am looking for the story about Navy SEAL's raid on the NVA base during the Vietnam war, where they did encounter and got in the firefight with East German instructors who happened to be there training NVA forces. I've read about it many years ago. Unfortunately, I can't recall the title of the book. I remember that SEALS suffered number of casualties and had a hard time escaping.
Thanks

Good question. All I remember, it was a boat raid on some river. Sorry, I don't remember dates or names of geographical locations.
There was a series of articles somewhere about SEAL operations in Vietnam.
I'll look it up but it will take time![]()
That's a new one to me.
I've read accounts of Army LRRP teams killing caucasian males traveling with the NVA and have spoken to recon Marines who were convinced they killed Chinese advisers working with the NVA. During the Son Tay raid it was reported that the helicopter which landed at the wrong location killed somewhere between 100-200 Chinese or Russian personnel they encountered. Apparently during May 1972 a combined USSF-SEAL unit destroyed a trainload of Vietnam bound SA-2 missiles inside China.

That there were Chinese troops "advising" the North Vietnamese is pretty common knowledge. Along with them were Russians, North Koreans, and various Eastern Europeans, if not necessarily in large numbers.
I was going with the Son Tay raid until you mentioned a riverborne operation and large casulties among the Americans. Don't know which op this is, but am interested to here about it.
East Germans? Is that confirmed? I have never heard that they were training the North Vietnamese.
You may be talking about an action by the US Army Special Forces -- Operation Ivory Coast.
Its a long shot, but who knows..
Ivory Coast was the Son Tay prison raid.
Yea mate. When I was reading the guys request it just rung a few bells -- so I thought I might put it down here. As I said, a long shot..Originally Posted by Ravage
