I've been having thoughts lately that the J20 is designed for high speed low observable attacks on high value aircraft like E3s and the like.

and you have reached this conclusion how??? J-20 is probably an air superiority fighter, people keep saying it is no match for the F-22 but there are no exports of the F-22, so the J-20 will likely face F-16s, F-15s, MiG-29s or Su-27/30s in regional conflicts which do not involve the US forces in the Pacific.
