Right after the Spring Festival, an armored regiment under the Xinjiang Military Area Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army maneuvered with actual troops and real equipment to the snowy Tianshan mountains to conduct a confrontation drill with full strength and all elements in the whole process, in a bid to temper the troops’ ability in actual combat and speed up the transformation of combat effectiveness generation mode.

Recently, the Special Armed Police Academy of the Chinese People’s Armed Police Force (APF) organized its officers and men to conduct a “devil week” field training in the suburbs of Beijing, capital of China. The elites of the special operation elements of the APF coming from different parts of China participated in the training.

Latest Chinese naval escort fleet leaves for Somali waters

ZHOUSHAN, Zhejiang Province, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The eighth Chinese naval escort fleet, which consists of two missile frigates, left on Monday for the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters to protect merchant ships from rampant piracy in the area.

After arriving, the two ships -- Ma'anshan and Wenzhou -- will be joined by Qiandaohu, a supply ship that is already patrolling the waters with the seventh escort fleet.

China sent its first convoy fleet to the Gulf of Aden and the Somali waters in December 2008. The seven convoy fleets have so far escorted over 3,400 Chinese and foreign ships through troubled waters and have rescued 33 ships from pirate attacks.

PLA (PLA SOF) vs PAP (Snow Leopard Commando)

Anybody knows which of the 2 units is more powerful & more respected in China AND outside China?
So far that I know, Snow Leopard Commando only in charge to counter terrorism within PR China borders (Or even only in Beijing??). But does it mean they are less trained soldiers than the PLA SOF who operate outside PRC? (I'm not sure about this)
    Thanks for the info.

    special thanks to Google Translate

Looking at that Type 09 exercise I realized something. The kinds of SPH's in current PLA service has been confusing me lately, never even heard of this Type 09. Would it be as follows?

    -PLZ-05: 155mm
    -Type 83: 152mm
    -Type 09: 122mm
    -PLZ-07: 122mm
    -PLZ-89: 122mm
    -WZ551 122mm SPH
    -ZBD-2000 122mm Amphibious SPH

And there seems to be the SH1 and SH2 122mm plus PLZ-45 155mm systems available for export. Plus a ZBD-09 122mm system that looks to be in development. Any others?
