Very realistic film about Indochina war. When I was in the army the film was shown during training course - we never commented it, so I don't really know what our instructors wanted to pin point: guerilla style warfare or keep the french army spirit - maybe both

Just watch the movie The Winter War. Does not get more realistic than that.

Charge of the British Heavy Cavalry at Waterloo. The cinematic with slowed down time and music in the background is breathtaking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vlcuvrM1po

The end of Band Of Brothers has far more impact for me than any combat scene.

Being badass is getting over the war. I hope I can accomplish half of what these guys have done. I want to be a high school history/social studies teacher, and write books on the side.

^I agree... two good endings to these mini-series. and a Bravo Zulu to the men who served in that generation.^

I don't think I can embed it here, but the HBO mini series The Pacific when they do the Peleliu landing scene, the front of the LST opens up and the sunlight pours into the insides and the landing craft start out of the ship down into the water.....to me, that is one great movie scene.....

Growing up, I knew several men who served in the south Pacific, and later when I met my future wife, I found out her dad had been in the South Pacific at Tinian and the Mariana Islands with the Navy. I also knew many men who served in the European theater, my boss at my job in college (as a draftsman) had been a forward artillery observer and he had lots of stories. Another man I worked with on construction had been a tank driver of a Sherman during the cold at the battle of the Buldge...and he had some shocking stories of the horror of war.
